DOUBLE FINE GAME CLUB: DF Game Club: Lume & Aether  (starting 1st of February)

The Double Fine Game Club is a community run weekly event where interested gamers play through and come together to discuss what they do and don’t like about a particular game (sort of like a book club, but for games). We usually aim to play one or two hours a week, and we normally have somebody streaming the current game so that those who don’t have the game or don’t feel like playing it again can still feel involved.

Discussion takes place here in the forums and on the Double Fine Game Club home page. Game Club is a very informal weekly chat, and everyone is welcome!

Previous game: Fester Mudd: Curse of the Gold
Next Game: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

Lume is a pretty nice, albeit short game. I was wondering why it took so long to get the second chapter done but then I noticed that the developer, State of Play, released a puzzle game called KAMI three days ago. That and paper crafted games seem to take a long time to develop.

I get the impression that Lumino City was refactored to be a much larger game rather than another episodic chapter, and that that decision to scale up also extended production time significantly.

Hey for those interested, there’s also a downloadable offline version of Aether for those who want an offline version to play:
http://www.armorgames.com/misc/downloads/aether.zip

After try out the 3 major versions of Aether, this offline version will probably be the version I go with for the stream since I always seem to have framerate or input lag with the basement collection version, and the online flash version is harder to capture with obs than the offline version. I still recommend getting the basement collection too though, since the documentary clips that tell about the ideas that went into making the games are well worth the price IMO.

Edit: To clarify, the offline version works with Mac and PC operating systems.

I’ve gotten word from Luke Whittaker from State of Play games that he’d like to join us. He’s also sent through some never before seen screenshots and WIP photos of Lume’s upcoming sequel, Lumino City which we’re going to show in the stream.

We’ve also heard from Edmund McMillen, who’s said he might be able to join us if he’s available.

The chat log and stream archives (Lume stream, Aether Stream) from today’s session are up! Thanks to everybody who joined us to chat and to Luke for sharing his time and some new Lumino City screenshots with us!

Next week, we’ll be starting on Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons!

Unfortunately, Edmund was unable to make it, but he often answers questions submitted to his website, so if you have questions, ask away!
