Let’s just call it a tie now, okay?

What the heck? Double Fine has reached the Great 8 of the Escapists March Mayhem. Woo!

So now we are up against Valve, and you know what that means. It’s time to stop this crazy, competitive mayhem and just declare the whole thing an 8-way tie. Everybody’s a winner!

We developers have to stick together, right? There’s room for us all to be successful, right? Who’s with me?

If you agree with me, then let us know by going to the ballot right now and voting for Double Fine. I know I said we should call it a tie, but there’s no check box for “Tie” so just vote for Double Fine, and when we win I’ll call it a tie I swear.

UPDATE:

Wow, I was kind of kidding, but you guys actually went and made it a tie. This is all kinds of ridiculous:

Not that I care or anything. Not that I even looked. I totally saw this by accident. I don’t even care. But man, the fact that we are so close to Valve here has me re-evaluating the power of our fans. You guys are an awesome and terrifying force.

I’m glad you guys made it all the way up.

Good luck for the next round with the heavy weight Valve.

Greetings from Portugal!

Good luck in the upcoming round. Sadly, some people are writing Double Fine off; saying this is not a best DEVElOPER tournament but best DEVELOPMENT “TEAM.” What cads.

“saying this is not a best DEVElOPER tournament but best DEVELOPMENT “TEAM.” What cads.”

IT IS!!!

But Tim Schafer, last time I checked, is part of the Doublefine team.

So what’s the difference???

Posted by Cyclone of Mystery on 03/29 at 05:31 PM

Exactly! Everyone at Double Fine is awesome! Otherwise they wouldn’t be Double Fine, would they?

Posted by ProggleRock on 03/29 at 08:15 PM

Holy....

Right now it’s 72 votes DF, 71 Valve.

Clinton vs. Obama has nothing on this.

Posted by Molbork on 03/29 at 08:40 PM

Yea I’ve been catching up on homework all day and checking the voting from time to time.

It’s making me very nervous ><

73 Valve 72 DF right now

Holy crap, I really did not expect Nintendo to be out of the race so soon. Nintendo is THE developer, the innovators, the single best thing to happen to video games since the Odyssey was invented… after Double Fine that is.

But really, what is life without a little Mario once in a while!? And ZELDA!! AND SMASH BROTHERS!! AND MARIO FREAKIN KART!!

Posted by Boozby on 03/29 at 09:05 PM

I just gave #75, hope it holds.

Posted by Evitron on 03/29 at 09:28 PM

Darn it, Double Fine, you gotta win! You GOTTA! Gordon Freeman will still respect you guys in the morning, I’m sure of it.

Posted by Evitron on 03/29 at 09:59 PM

...78 v 78?!

Good God. This battle is going to end very bitterly.

Posted by Molbork on 03/29 at 11:11 PM

Look what you did to my saturday night Tim!

I’ve been staring at nail biting gut wrenching voting action bars go up and down all day long.

Posted by Molbork on 03/29 at 11:15 PM

PS Where did the missing 18.8% go?

Posted by Cyclone of Mystery on 03/30 at 02:32 AM

...You know, I’d be terrified of us if I wasn’t one of us.

Posted by Jeffool on 03/30 at 04:49 AM

A tie?  Are you kidding me?!  Double Fine is just now beginning its “going on the warpath"-technique, and edging ahead 93-89!  This isn’t the time to declare a tie, instead it’s the time to declare victory early, and demoralize your opponent’s base, making them give up and not vote at all!

...  Hrm.  Have I been watching too much C-Span?

they’ll never know what hit em ^^

Posted by Aphrodine on 03/30 at 07:00 AM

My vote counted.  <3

Posted by Evitron on 03/30 at 07:41 AM

NOOOO! Double Fine! D:

Posted by Action Shark on 03/30 at 08:04 AM

I don’t get why Valve seems to have gone through even though Double Fine had more votes. Is my monitor broken? :(

Posted by Action Shark on 03/30 at 08:05 AM

Wait, I just figured out how it works. Erm. Never mind.

Posted by Kroms on 03/30 at 08:30 AM

We’re a Brutal Force all right. Too bad I forgot to vote yesterday.

Posted by masquerade on 03/30 at 02:11 PM

Certainly a day to remember; I think Valve shall take the remaining competition, which means we techinically came joint first.

Posted by MadMax666 on 03/30 at 05:17 PM

72 right here. shucks tim, were only so powerful because we resemble the thing we stalk...you

Alright, I got to vent here a little bit. And although I have to open up my vents of anger on the outcome, I’ll refuse to open up the valve.
I found a few points made on the Escapist Form to be rather ill-founded. The best “Development House” vs. “Developer” debate has been pretty thoroughly discussed, so I’ll just skip that one. It really would have been a mute issue if Double Fine was headed by anyone with less of a cult following. But how often do you hear people discuss a Nintendo game as Miyamotos, or a Team Ninja game as Itagakis. They’re figure heads for there respective companies and the reputation that proceeds them, should be considered. A field in which Tim deserves the recognition.
Now, I must say, I enjoy Valves work. I enjoy there spirit and there openness with middleware options and things. But what have they really developed to garnish all the support? Do we need reminding that Counter Strike and Team Fortress were developed from mods made externally of Valve? Then there is Portal, which is a fantastic game, developed by Kim Swift and a team from Digipen. Valve is developing a lot in the direction of a publisher, and a very promising one at that. I think its valve’s publishing and middleware that really developing and I find a lot more exciting then yet another episode of Half-life.

Aww damn… Lost by 4 votes… Tim doesn’t get to be President of the US now?

Posted by ProggleRock on 03/30 at 08:06 PM

I heard that Gabe Newell teamed up with the HL2 hacker and added four extra votes for Valve. It’ll be on the news soon.

Posted by janx218 on 04/17 at 02:22 PM

Tim!  You haven’t updated in forever!  Were you so hurt by your loss in this contest that you’ve sworn off all things technological and gone to live in the woods forevermore, ne’er to be heard from again?
