## Episode Transcript

17 secondsSPAFF: Oh, wow!

19 secondsOh.

20 seconds-SPAFF: What a day for that to show up. -Yeah.

23 seconds"How does it feel to milk so much money from the nostalgia of fans?"

25 seconds"Why are you so shit? Thank you."

28 secondsThat's a good question.

29 secondsSPAFF: "On a scale of 1 to 420 how much did you blaze it

33 secondswhen making the trippy parts of Psychonauts?"

35 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

37 secondsSPAFF: "It was not my intention when writing..."

39 secondsI don't want to do, like, one of those non-apology apologies,

41 secondswhere you are like: "I'm sorry if you were offended."

43 secondsBecause that's just kind of saying--

44 secondsthat's what people always say when they aren't apologizing.

46 secondsSPAFF: Yeah, so say: "I'm sorry I offended you."

47 secondsYou offended that person. That's a fact.

49 secondsYou offended that person.

50 secondsThis is a chance to, like--

51 secondsThis is a real human person who was a Double Fan, who's met you, and...

56 secondsThis is a chance for us to see...

59 secondsIt's, like, the other side.

1 minute and 1 second\[MUSIC\]

1 minute and 33 seconds-Psychonauts 2 is happening. -TIM: What?! Who leaked that out?!

1 minute and 36 secondsTIM: And we are going to make Psychonauts 2,

1 minute and 38 secondsand hopefully crowdfund it.

1 minute and 40 seconds-GREG: ...December 3rd for launching that. -What?!

1 minute and 42 secondsIt's a little scary.

1 minute and 44 secondsSPAFF: So, there is a ton of stuff going on right now,

1 minute and 46 secondsand it's kind of breaking me.

1 minute and 47 secondsGREG: We are talking about VR experiences.

1 minute and 49 secondsTIM: Um, as kind of a missing mission between Psychonauts 1 and 2.

1 minute and 53 secondsAnd we are going to do the Video Game Awards.

1 minute and 55 secondsANNOUNCER: World premiere!

1 minute and 57 secondsTIM: Where we are going to show the trailer for Psychonauts 2 tomorrow.

2 minutes and 1 secondThen send in...

2 minutes and 3 secondsThe Psychonauts!

2 minutes and 4 secondsOh my god!

2 minutes and 17 seconds-TIM: Ra-a-ay! -RAY: Hello! Welcome back!

2 minutes and 19 seconds-Hello! -Welcome back, welcome back!

2 minutes and 23 secondsTIM: So, we launched our campaign last night.

2 minutes and 25 secondsAnd I was really nervous, and...

2 minutes and 27 seconds...it went great. I have to say it went--

2 minutes and 29 secondsIt was, like, best case scenario on everything.

2 minutes and 30 secondsBecause, like... I was really nervous,

2 minutes and 32 secondsbecause everything is coming in very last minute,

2 minutes and 35 secondsa lot of things were not agreed upon.

2 minutes and 37 secondsAnd I was so worried it was going to slip.

2 minutes and 40 secondsWe had heard that there was something-- there was another reveal

2 minutes and 42 secondsthat was supposed to happen in the show.

2 minutes and 43 secondsAnd it leaked early, and so it was cut from the show.

2 minutes and 46 secondsAnd I wanted so much to have that moment, um, on stage

2 minutes and 50 secondswhere we would show the trailer, and people didn't know what was coming,

2 minutes and 52 secondsand they thought it was a trailer for Call of Duty,

2 minutes and 54 secondsand all of a sudden it's this trailer for Psychonauts.

2 minutes and 56 secondsAnd I wanted that moment.

2 minutes and 57 secondsIt happened. It was so great!

3 minutes and 0 seconds\[CROWD CHEERING\]

3 minutes and 2 secondsAwesome, okay. I'm going to go lay down for a bit.

3 minutes and 3 secondsGood luck, you guys!

3 minutes and 5 secondsAll right, thank you!

3 minutes and 7 secondsLet's do it, you guys!

3 minutes and 10 secondsAll right.

3 minutes and 13 seconds-Thank you! -Thank you!

3 minutes and 16 secondsThat's Bonnie Ross! She made Halo!

3 minutes and 18 secondsYeah!

3 minutes and 19 secondsTIM: And then people on Twitter were freaking out,

3 minutes and 22 secondsand everyone was so nice and happy.

3 minutes and 24 secondsAnd then the campaign just took off, even faster than we were expecting.

3 minutes and 27 secondsSo, it was just--

3 minutes and 28 secondsIt was just nice to get that validation that people did actually want the game.

3 minutes and 31 secondsAnd the internet was nice for once. And that was great.

3 minutes and 35 secondsI shouldn't say that. The internet's been very nice to me.

3 minutes and 37 secondsMost of the time.

3 minutes and 38 secondsPart of the time.

3 minutes and 40 secondsThe funniest one was, man...

3 minutes and 41 seconds"Anyone who backs Tim Schafer--

3 minutes and 43 secondsAnyone who keeps giving Tim Schafer money

3 minutes and 45 secondsafter Fez II is really bad at pattern recognition."

3 minutes and 47 seconds-\[LAUGHTER\] -TIM: I was like...

3 minutes and 49 seconds"I can't tell if you are being a genius right now or super stupid."

3 minutes and 52 secondsSo, what's going on with that campaign?

3 minutes and 54 secondsSPAFF: Do a refresh, see where we are at.

3 minutes and 55 seconds\[TIM CHUCKLES\]

3 minutes and 57 seconds-Welcome to my life. -SPAFF: Oh, it went up!

3 minutes and 58 seconds-Oh, 952! -SPAFF: By one thousand!

3 minutes and 59 seconds-\[SPAFF LAUGHS\] -TIM: Oh my god!

4 minutes and 2 secondsOkay. So, that's what's going on there.

4 minutes and 6 secondsLet's talk about GVR!

4 minutes and 7 secondsHey, Rhombus of Ruin!

4 minutes and 9 seconds-You can say that really loud. -Woo!

4 minutes and 11 secondsHey! Give me an update on Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, guys.

4 minutes and 13 secondsIf you can't wait for Psychonauts 2,

4 minutes and 15 secondswe do have something special, just for you, guys.

4 minutes and 29 seconds-TIM: Yeah! -\[CLAPPING\]

4 minutes and 31 seconds\[CLAPPING\]

4 minutes and 33 secondsTIM: That's Chad's update. He just started clapping.

4 minutes and 34 secondsHe is like: "I'm excited."

4 minutes and 37 secondsHe just can't hide it.

4 minutes and 38 secondsMost of the team now can stop working on the trailers,

4 minutes and 41 secondsand start working on the game again, which is good.

4 minutes and 42 seconds\[CHUCKLING\]

4 minutes and 44 secondsWe could do a little more polish.

4 minutes and 46 secondsWe never got around to the barefoot thing.

4 minutes and 47 secondsSo let's, um, keep working on it.

4 minutes and 50 secondsAs a team we are kind of figuring out

4 minutes and 52 secondshow we are wrapping up the end of this year.

4 minutes and 54 secondsKind of going into production starting January.

4 minutes and 56 secondsCool.

4 minutes and 57 secondsGood.

4 minutes and 58 secondsAwesome. You are public now.

5 minutes and 1 secondANDY: The game was announced, which is really, really cool.

5 minutes and 3 secondsSo, it's good. I was--

5 minutes and 5 secondsI was happy to tell everybody that I know, like, what I'm working on.

5 minutes and 8 secondsI'm continuing to do organizational stuff.

5 minutes and 10 secondsI'm working on some budgeting stuff

5 minutes and 12 secondsand getting staffing running out through the remainder of the project,

5 minutes and 15 secondsespecially into production, so that we actually have enough people,

5 minutes and 19 secondsand no other games steal them.

5 minutes and 21 secondsEspecially because by five o'clock on the 17th, I am out of here!

5 minutes and 25 secondsBecause I have a very important movie to see!

5 minutes and 27 seconds-\[CHUCKLING\] -ANDY: So...

5 minutes and 30 secondsThat's the second--

5 minutes and 31 seconds-I'll be leaving that night as well. -Yeah.

5 minutes and 33 seconds-\[CHUCKLING\] -I'll be leaving Earth.

5 minutes and 35 secondsANDY: All right. So, uh, yeah.

5 minutes and 37 secondsWe are making this Rhombus of Ruin game.

5 minutes and 39 secondsHow are we making this Rhombus of Ruin game?

5 minutes and 40 secondsWell, let's start-- Starting from the back.

5 minutes and 43 secondsThat's when this game is supposed to be done.

5 minutes and 45 secondsOkay, can we look at the budget real quick?

5 minutes and 49 secondsOoo, tiny numbers!

5 minutes and 50 secondsRAY: So, the animation-- Because we are l--

5 minutes and 52 secondslooking to hire an animator.

5 minutes and 54 secondsWe need somebody to go onto Psychonauts 2 also.

5 minutes and 56 secondsOh, that game...

5 minutes and 58 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

5 minutes and 59 secondsCould be you, Ray.

6 minutes and 1 secondTIM: Got an open spot.

6 minutes and 2 secondsI gotta do these other things.

6 minutes and 5 seconds-ANDY: Ray-- Ray is... -TIM: Chad's got it!

6 minutes and 6 seconds...intimately involved with this chart.

6 minutes and 8 seconds\[CHUCKLING\]

6 minutes and 9 secondsLook at that chart. Do you want to stick around for this?!

6 minutes and 11 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

6 minutes and 13 seconds\[MUSIC\]

6 minutes and 27 secondsPAUL: That looks like Psychonauts.

6 minutes and 30 secondsCool, I'm glad-- That's good to hear.

6 minutes and 31 secondsSo, we are just starting to ramp up now.

6 minutes and 33 secondsAnd we are just getting things moving, so.

6 minutes and 35 secondsIt's all slowly starting to happen, so.

6 minutes and 38 secondsEverything here...

6 minutes and 40 secondswas made in Maya.

6 minutes and 41 secondsAnd Unreal basically is a level builder.

6 minutes and 45 secondsI kind of work messy, and I have all my stuff in one big file.

6 minutes and 49 secondsBut, basically, I'll break this down into smaller files,

6 minutes and 52 secondswhere you have, like, a chair file.

6 minutes and 54 secondsFor example, like, this file here, basically, gets imported into Unreal,

7 minutes and 0 secondsand then we just place it.

7 minutes and 1 secondIt's all modular, basically.

7 minutes and 3 secondsWe dropped the characters in.

7 minutes and 5 secondsAnd those are slowly coming online now too,

7 minutes and 6 secondswhich is really cool, so.

7 minutes and 9 secondsSo, things are slowly coming in.

7 minutes and 10 secondsWhat the?! When did that appear?

7 minutes and 13 secondsThe jet is meant to be more of a-- a very small sandbox for your powers.

7 minutes and 17 secondsSo, we want the player to experiment with their powers,

7 minutes and 20 secondsand figure out, like, what they can do.

7 minutes and 24 secondsOh, cool! Oh, look at that!

7 minutes and 28 secondsYeah! Here! Now you can have it, Coach.

7 minutes and 30 seconds\[TIM LAUGHS\]

7 minutes and 31 seconds-Can I set it all on fire? -SILVIO: You can!

7 minutes and 34 secondsRAY: The whole cabinet is--

7 minutes and 36 secondsSILVIO: Give it a second, give it a second.

7 minutes and 38 seconds-SILVIO: There you go. -\[LAUGHTER\]

7 minutes and 39 secondsTIM: And close it!

7 minutes and 41 secondsOh, no! You guys, we gotta land.

7 minutes and 43 seconds-\[TIM SCREAMS\] -\[LAUGHTER\]

7 minutes and 45 secondsSILVIO: We are very close to getting a flaming bag of poop.

7 minutes and 48 secondsWhich is something Brad really, really, really wanted.

7 minutes and 52 secondsFlaming bag of poop would be really good though.

7 minutes and 54 secondsWhere did the poop come from?

7 minutes and 56 seconds-PAUL: Do it in his honor. -Yes.

7 minutes and 58 secondsPAUL: So, what's your general level of comfort in Unreal at this point?

8 minutes and 1 secondLEVI: Oh, look at that! I don't even know what I did.

8 minutes and 3 seconds\[MUSIC\]

8 minutes and 6 secondsPro. Pro at work here.

8 minutes and 8 secondsI have not touched this engine before.

8 minutes and 10 secondsH stands for height.

8 minutes and 13 secondsPro tip.

8 minutes and 14 secondsAnd...

8 minutes and 15 secondsThey had gotten to the point where they started needing, uh,

8 minutes and 19 secondsa look into material dev for, uh...

8 minutes and 22 secondsjust where Psychonauts had come from,

8 minutes and 26 secondsand where it's going to go in terms of the two generations

8 minutes and 30 secondsthat it's kind of, like-- that have been since the original.

8 minutes and 33 seconds\[MUSIC\]

8 minutes and 35 secondsEspecially, like, now that there is just so much more that you can do.

8 minutes and 39 secondsMaterial work was pretty much hand-painted before, right?

8 minutes and 42 secondsUm, so, it didn't have much, uh, roughness or specularity,

8 minutes and 48 secondsor normal mapping going on.

8 minutes and 49 secondsMaybe, like, Raz's helmet did a little bit.

8 minutes and 51 secondsBut, uh, mainly everything was just, like, painted in shadows, and, uh...

8 minutes and 56 secondsSo you got a really, really, uh, strong artistic thumbprint for the game,

9 minutes and 2 secondsbecause it was handcrafted.

9 minutes and 3 secondsEvery single thing was, like, you know, an artist's touch.

9 minutes and 6 secondsLike, all the way down to the little spatters of paint,

9 minutes and 8 secondsor, uh, the texture of the brush.

9 minutes and 11 secondsAnd I have this kind of wood plank in there,

9 minutes and 14 secondsthat, uh, was based on an old one.

9 minutes and 17 secondsI'm still working on it, but this is an original Psychonauts texture.

9 minutes and 20 secondsRes'd up a little bit.

9 minutes and 22 secondsYeah, being able to res those up, and see the world coming together

9 minutes and 28 secondsin just, like, a higher fidelity is-- is pretty, pretty exciting.

9 minutes and 31 secondsSo, we are trying to find, like, that halfway point of, like,

9 minutes and 35 secondsbelievable materials, but not losing, um...

9 minutes and 40 secondsthat handcrafted feel...

9 minutes and 42 secondsthat Psychonauts is, like, I think, resonated with people.

9 minutes and 45 secondsPAUL: Were you given any sort of, uh, limits?

9 minutes and 48 secondsJust because of performance, and, like, the VR strain?

9 minutes and 50 secondsLEVI: Nothing yet.

9 minutes and 52 secondsUm, I haven't checked any of this stuff in yet, so.

9 minutes and 54 secondsI'll just check some stuff in,

9 minutes and 55 secondsand then I'll hear my name and cursing from down the hall.

10 minutes and 0 secondsAnd then we'll know we are at the limits.

10 minutes and 1 secondANDY: So, we are kind of changing gears.

10 minutes and 2 secondsUp until now, the focus has been making one level look really good.

10 minutes and 7 secondsWhich was the jet.

10 minutes and 7 secondsAnd learning about how that's going to work,

10 minutes and 9 secondsand there was a lot of back-and-forth.

10 minutes and 11 secondsNow we are moving forward on:

10 minutes and 13 seconds"Let's get designs locked down,

10 minutes and 15 secondslet's build out environments in a rougher, faster sense,

10 minutes and 20 secondsto get the gameplay... kind of foundation put together,

10 minutes and 25 secondsso we could start moving forward on multiple environments."

10 minutes and 28 secondsTIM: The Rhombus of Ruin team is getting more and more independent.

10 minutes and 30 secondsI just had to help them finish the last-- the, um, design,

10 minutes and 33 secondsand then I can write the dialogue.

10 minutes and 35 secondsTIM: Phew!

10 minutes and 36 seconds-Okay, excellent. -Cool.

10 minutes and 37 secondsKeep up the good work, you virtual people.

10 minutes and 39 secondsThanks, Tim. Good luck with the writing.

10 minutes and 41 seconds-TIM: Yeah! Thank you. -\[RAY LAUGHS\]

10 minutes and 43 secondsHint, hint, hint.

10 minutes and 44 secondsTIM: Do you want me to show you my GVR dialogue?

10 minutes and 46 secondsLet me show you the awesome GVR dialogue!

10 minutes and 49 secondsSo, I'll turn in a dialogue file like this.

10 minutes and 52 secondsAnd then the team can make comments right here, see?

10 minutes and 55 secondsThat's a good reaction from me: "Nope."

10 minutes and 57 secondsThere's Chad talking about a puzzle changing.

10 minutes and 59 secondsSo, we talk back and forth in this Google Doc.

11 minutes and 1 secondWhen is the dialogue that's been written so far is going to be implemented?

11 minutes and 5 seconds-Um, that is a good question. -Because I'd like to see that in the game

11 minutes and 7 secondsbefore I write more dialogue.

11 minutes and 9 secondsTIM: I mean, you do your best to just imagine it.

11 minutes and 11 secondsBut it's, like, a lot.

11 minutes and 12 secondsLike, all of Grim Fandango I was just--

11 minutes and 13 secondsI was imagining how the game would be done in my head,

11 minutes and 16 secondsbecause I was trying to--

11 minutes and 17 secondsWe had to get it done so far in advance that when the game actually got wired up--

11 minutes and 21 secondsSo I was wiring up rooms that had never been drawn.

11 minutes and 23 secondsI was just like: "He walks into a room." And, like, you know, um...

11 minutes and 26 secondsAnd so, you do that a lot, predictive writing.

11 minutes and 30 secondsYou do your best, and then you make the stuff,

11 minutes and 32 secondsand then you see where all the gaps are,

11 minutes and 33 secondsand you are like: "Okay, what are we missing?"

11 minutes and 35 secondsAnd then, hopefully, you have a smaller amount of work to just pick up.

11 minutes and 38 secondsWe got that new Psychonauts 2 designer coming in.

11 minutes and 40 secondsRAY: I know...

11 minutes and 41 secondsAnd Tim's head seemed to be on:

11 minutes and 43 seconds"I gotta start meeting with that guy every day, and...

11 minutes and 46 secondsthat's going to be my main... focus on."

11 minutes and 49 secondsYou know?

11 minutes and 50 secondsI mean, I feel like I can pull, like, one day a week towards GVR.

11 minutes and 53 secondsOkay.

11 minutes and 54 seconds-\[RAY LAUGHS\] -TIM: Because I have this other project...

11 minutes and 56 seconds-TIM: ...that I am doing. -RAY: I know! Who's gonna write this game?

11 minutes and 58 secondsWhy do you think it takes more than a week?

11 minutes and 59 secondsYou got a day.

12 minutes and 0 seconds-I wrote the last one in a day. -RAY: Did you?

12 minutes and 2 seconds-Yeah. -Oh, okay.

12 minutes and 3 secondsTIM: In a weird way, like, once you make those characters,

12 minutes and 5 secondsand they are in your head, like, they just start talking again.

12 minutes and 7 secondsI think...

12 minutes and 8 secondsWho knows, maybe when you play it, you are like:

12 minutes and 10 seconds"This doesn't sound like them."

12 minutes and 11 secondsExcept I never write like this.

12 minutes and 12 secondsI write, as you know, with my Pandora heavy metal station on.

12 minutes and 16 secondsSlayer!

12 minutes and 18 secondsTIM: And I've been able to write dialogue in sections.

12 minutes and 20 secondsIt's been pretty fast, so.

12 minutes and 22 secondsI think I can just help them with dialogue,

12 minutes and 23 secondswhile I'm designing Psychonauts 2.

12 minutes and 25 secondsAnd it's good, because it's all one big Psychonauts world to work in.

12 minutes and 29 secondsIt helps me, because I can put things in both games that speak to each other.

12 minutes and 33 secondsAnd occasionally play it and say: "That doesn't seem very Psychonauts."

12 minutes and 39 seconds-Yeah. -Okay.

12 minutes and 40 seconds-Your scale is different in the rat. -Aah!

12 minutes and 42 seconds-\[CHAD LAUGHS\] -It's the chair.

12 minutes and 44 secondsCHAD: Move down to that car with that glass roof.

12 minutes and 47 secondsThat's where Lili should be now.

12 minutes and 48 secondsHm...

12 minutes and 49 secondsTIM: And I can't move the...

12 minutes and 50 secondsCHAD: Well, we can still do a bit of this puzzle.

12 minutes and 52 secondsThen you can get a sense of it.

12 minutes and 53 secondsTIM: I think this one is neat. Is that burning?

12 minutes and 56 seconds-CHAD: Uh, that one is not wood. -TIM: It looks metal.

12 minutes and 57 secondsCHAD: Yeah, that one up there is wood. You got it.

13 minutes and 0 secondsThere's only two that are wood.

13 minutes and 2 secondsAnd then it's a sliding puzzle.

13 minutes and 4 secondsIt's a little hard to tell what to do without her here.

13 minutes and 6 secondsBut, um, you can feel, kind of, how it is to slide the, uh,

13 minutes and 10 secondsslide the blocks around.

13 minutes and 11 secondsTIM: So, we gotta make a path for her

13 minutes and 13 secondsor is she constantly moving into the empty space?

13 minutes and 15 secondsCHAD: She is constantly moving into the empty space.

13 minutes and 17 secondsBut that's sort of the sequence. It's like five cars.

13 minutes and 20 secondsIt's neat. And the sliding puzzle, it's--

13 minutes and 22 secondsIt's, um...

13 minutes and 24 secondsYeah, it's hard to gauge how fast was it.

13 minutes and 25 secondsIt seemed like it went by really, really fast.

13 minutes and 27 secondsI just wish it was, like, a little-- slightly harder one.

13 minutes and 29 secondsSo you kind of, like, taking that skill you learned, and then, um...

13 minutes and 32 secondsdoing a cooler version of it.

13 minutes and 35 secondsAnd, like, there's-- there is one that is almost the same,

13 minutes and 38 secondsbut the first one doesn't have any crates you have to burn.

13 minutes and 40 secondsYou are like: "Oh, I slide it around. That's easy."

13 minutes and 42 secondsAnd the next one is like: "Holy crap! It's all jam-packed. What am I gonna do?"

13 minutes and 44 secondsSo you have to figure out:

13 minutes and 45 seconds"Oh, I gotta burn all the wood crates, and stuff."

13 minutes and 47 secondsCHAD: Almost everything we show Tim,

13 minutes and 48 secondshe wants it to be more elaborate is his feedback.

13 minutes and 51 secondsAnd there is a sliding puzzle with Lili and a guard.

13 minutes and 53 secondsSo, like, if you ever led them into the same place...

13 minutes and 55 secondsLike, it's-- you have to, like, keep them separate or something, I don't know.

13 minutes and 58 secondsLike, most of his ideas are-- are good.

14 minutes and 0 secondsUm, he'd probably say all.

14 minutes and 1 secondBut I'd say most of his ideas are good.

14 minutes and 3 secondsAnd you want to get it in there,

14 minutes and 4 secondsbut, you know, the practical side of you, um, is definitely saying:

14 minutes and 10 seconds"That's a whole new character, that's new animation, that's new work.

14 minutes and 14 secondsUm, is it worth adding those things?

14 minutes and 16 secondsOr should we take our existing things and polish them, and make them better?"

14 minutes and 19 secondsBut, you are right, it's, um... It's always a trade-off with time.

14 minutes and 24 secondsI want to try to hit this in preparation

14 minutes and 28 secondsfor there being any sort of E3 demo.

14 minutes and 32 secondsWe are contractually obligated for E3.

14 minutes and 34 secondsRight.

14 minutes and 35 seconds-It's a lot of work. -We can just limit it to, like, the jet.

14 minutes and 38 secondsI would say that, you know, the opening six minutes of the game.

14 minutes and 40 secondsBut then, that-- that takes us back to the same thing.

14 minutes and 43 seconds-ANDY: Right. -RAY: Which is...

14 minutes and 44 secondsWe would need to-- Those would be near final.

14 minutes and 47 secondsNot near final.

14 minutes and 49 secondsNear final?

14 minutes and 50 secondsWell... \[RAY CHUCKLES\]

14 minutes and 51 secondsFinal.

14 minutes and 52 seconds\[MUSIC\]

15 minutes and 6 seconds\[YAWNS\]

15 minutes and 9 secondsOh, sorry. It was a long campaign.

15 minutes and 12 seconds-Friday. -Final weekend.

15 minutes and 13 secondsAre we doing anything over the weekend for the campaign?

15 minutes and 15 secondsUm, we haven't talked about that.

15 minutes and 18 seconds-I'm sure we'll be out on social. -Yes, we will.

15 minutes and 20 secondsI don't know what that...

15 minutes and 21 secondsOkay. Let's first talk about the AMA.

15 minutes and 23 seconds-Yeah. -AMA.

15 minutes and 25 secondsYou pre-sighed that conversation.

15 minutes and 27 secondsYou went: \[TIM SIGHS\]

15 minutes and 29 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

15 minutes and 32 secondsGREG: Now the number two question is:

15 minutes and 33 seconds"What's your big takeaway from doing the Double Fine Adventure doc?

15 minutes and 35 secondsDid the transparency gain you more trust or suspicion from your supporters?"

15 minutes and 42 secondsTIM: We are making a bigger game than we Kickstarted.

15 minutes and 44 secondsWe are delivering it later, but we are paying with our own money.

15 minutes and 48 secondsAnd then to have that framed as a total scam and a rip-off by us...

15 minutes and 52 seconds...just is kind of mind-boggling.

15 minutes and 55 secondsYou know, after--

15 minutes and 56 secondsYou know, when we split the game in half we lost some people forever, you know?

16 minutes and 0 secondsAnd when the Gamergate stuff happened, that probably was a chunk of people.

16 minutes and 3 secondsSPAFF: Gamergate turned all these people against you.

16 minutes and 7 seconds\[SPAFF SIGHS\]

16 minutes and 9 secondsGREG: There is, like, a group of people that are...

16 minutes and 12 seconds...hoping that we won't succeed for some weird reason.

16 minutes and 15 secondsUm, or that are, at least, heavily scrutinizing us.

16 minutes and 18 secondsAnd it definitely has been something that's been weighing on a lot of people.

16 minutes and 21 secondsANNA: And, like, you do-- you question yourself.

16 minutes and 23 secondsLike: "Yeah, maybe we don't-- What the fuck?

16 minutes and 25 secondsMaybe we don't know what we are doing. Who knows?"

16 minutes and 27 secondsSPAFF: There is definitely a chance here

16 minutes and 29 secondsthat lots of people who have issues with Tim

16 minutes and 32 secondsor with the Broken Age campaign, you know, will come crawling out

16 minutes and 36 secondsand start shouting about the things that they are annoyed by.

16 minutes and 39 secondsBut I'm quite hopeful that they'll just be kind of drowned out

16 minutes and 43 secondsby the people who are excited about Psychonauts 2.

16 minutes and 46 secondsWhich I think will be more people than--

16 minutes and 48 secondsthan the people who are, you know, mad about one thing or another.

16 minutes and 54 secondsSo, we'll have to see, I guess.

16 minutes and 55 secondsHopefully our community will... look at it and upvote, downvote--

16 minutes and 59 secondsBut I don't necessarily want the negative questions to be downvoted.

17 minutes and 1 secondBecause I kind of want this opportunity to have--

17 minutes and 3 secondsthat we are on record.

17 minutes and 5 secondsI just don't want someone to be able to have, like:

17 minutes and 7 seconds"Look at this mess of an AMA where it's all just pure negativity."

17 minutes and 10 secondsSo hopefully it's a bit of both.

17 minutes and 11 secondsYeah, I think, we--

17 minutes and 13 secondsIt's our main chance to actually address that stuff.

17 minutes and 16 seconds-Yep, agree. -I think it's the main opportunity here.

17 minutes and 18 seconds\[MUSIC\]

17 minutes and 20 secondsGREG: Many people have lost trust in your company

17 minutes and 22 secondsdue to mishandling of several past games' resources.

17 minutes and 24 secondsWhat would you say to ease the fears of those worried

17 minutes and 26 secondsthat Psychonauts 2 may suffer a similar fate?

17 minutes and 30 secondsTIM: Regarding games going over budget.

17 minutes and 32 secondsMany times in the past I've made the choice

17 minutes and 33 secondsto invest more in a game than the original budget specified.

17 minutes and 35 secondsAnd that's because in the end,

17 minutes and 37 secondsmy highest priority is the quality of the game.

17 minutes and 39 secondsMost of the games you play, not all of them, but more than you think,

17 minutes and 41 secondswent over budget and extended their schedule at some point.

17 minutes and 44 secondsDouble Fine is just more honest and transparent about it.

17 minutes and 46 secondsThere are many things that lower the risk of Psychonauts 2 going over budget.

17 minutes and 49 secondsIt's a sequel, and so the gameplay and IP of the game are already known.

17 minutes and 52 secondsWe are using the Unreal Engine,

17 minutes and 53 secondsso we don't have to write an engine from scratch.

17 minutes and 55 secondsAnd our team is much more experienced than when we made the first game.

17 minutes and 58 secondsBut even after that, if the game has any overages,

18 minutes and 0 secondsDouble Fine is committed to paying for them ourselves,

18 minutes and 2 secondsas we have done in the past.

18 minutes and 3 secondsWe have shipped 17 games over 15 years, and overall

18 minutes and 6 secondswe have a great track record of shipping great games

18 minutes and 8 secondsand being extremely transparent and honest with our community.

18 minutes and 11 secondsThis is the more lasting reputation of Double Fine,

18 minutes and 12 secondsand the reason people can feel confident about Psychonauts 2.

18 minutes and 15 seconds-SPAFF: Nice. -Boom!

18 minutes and 16 secondsJUSTIN: I would suggest breaking that answer in two.

18 minutes and 19 secondsAnd doing the first part-- Sorry.

18 minutes and 21 seconds-What? -JUSTIN: I'm joking!

18 minutes and 22 seconds-\[LAUGHTER\] -You! Don't even...

18 minutes and 24 seconds-Not today, young man. -\[LAUGHTER\]

18 minutes and 27 secondsI need to make sure that we can really answer their questions,

18 minutes and 29 secondsand that we've learned from...

18 minutes and 31 secondsum, you know, our first Kickstarter, our first crowdfunding campaign.

18 minutes and 35 secondsTIM: Hm?

18 minutes and 36 secondsI sent you the link on Slack.

18 minutes and 39 seconds-To what? -To a comment.

18 minutes and 40 secondsUm, and it might be worth replying to.

18 minutes and 43 secondsIf I just said, like: "I'm sorry." Like, I feel like I'm saying:

18 minutes and 46 seconds"I did, I did do that thing you are saying I did."

18 minutes and 48 secondsBut I didn't!

18 minutes and 49 secondsI don't want to do, like, one of those non-apology apologies,

18 minutes and 51 secondswhere you are like: "I'm sorry if you were offended."

18 minutes and 52 secondsBecause that's just kind of saying--

18 minutes and 54 secondsthat's what people always say when they aren't apologizing.

18 minutes and 55 secondsSPAFF: Yeah, so say: "I'm sorry I offended you."

18 minutes and 57 secondsYou offended that person. That's a fact.

18 minutes and 59 secondsYou offended that person.

19 minutes and 0 secondsThis is a chance to, like--

19 minutes and 1 secondThis is a real human person who was a Double Fan, who's met you, and...

19 minutes and 6 secondsThis is a chance for us to see--

19 minutes and 9 secondsIt's, like, the other side.

19 minutes and 11 secondsTIM: Well, then I'll just say: "I'm sorry I offended you.

19 minutes and 12 secondsThat was not my intention."

19 minutes and 15 secondsPAUL: Well, I mean, the person you apologized to accepted the apology.

19 minutes and 18 secondsAnd they seemed happier for it.

19 minutes and 19 secondsI mean, a lot of people--

19 minutes and 20 secondsLike, before Gamergate, I was always the person who said:

19 minutes and 23 seconds"If you just talk to angry people--

19 minutes and 24 secondslike, angry customers and stuff, if you just talk to them,

19 minutes and 26 secondsthey are usually so happy that you talk to them

19 minutes and 29 secondsthat they settle down and they talk rationally,

19 minutes and 32 secondsand they come around to being friendly."

19 minutes and 34 secondsAnd, um...

19 minutes and 35 secondsAnd then, during Gamergate, there was a lot of just-- people were like:

19 minutes and 37 seconds"This person does not want to resolve the situation.

19 minutes and 40 secondsThis person just wants to yell at me,

19 minutes and 41 secondsor get their point across.

19 minutes and 43 secondsAnd every time I try and talk to them reasonably,

19 minutes and 44 secondsthey are-- they just--

19 minutes and 46 secondsthey are not interested in coming to a consensus or understanding.

19 minutes and 49 secondsThey just want to yell." And so I kind of gave up on that.

19 minutes and 51 secondsAnd so it's nice to know things can get back to normal

19 minutes and 53 secondswhere you can actually engage with someone who is irate.

19 minutes and 56 secondsAnd talk them off the ledge and--

19 minutes and 58 secondsand restore that relationship.

20 minutes and 0 secondsTIM: So, uh, we've been doing an AMA all morning.

20 minutes and 3 secondsSo far it's going well.

20 minutes and 4 secondsUm, but it's, like-- There are a lot of--

20 minutes and 5 secondsThere are a lot of just really interesting questions about, like:

20 minutes and 7 seconds"What's Psychonauts is going to be like?"

20 minutes and 8 secondsAnd all this stuff. And then, um...

20 minutes and 10 secondsA couple of question that, I think, are from Bert.

20 minutes and 12 seconds-Because they are pretty... -\[LAUGHTER\]

20 minutes and 15 seconds-TIM: Pretty hostile and negative, so. -\[LAUGHTER\]

20 minutes and 18 secondsTIM: What's your favorite foreign object you've ever stuck in your beard?

20 minutes and 22 secondsYour mom's \*\*\*\*\*.

20 minutes and 23 secondsGREG: Oh, shit!

20 minutes and 24 secondsThat's it!

20 minutes and 26 secondsAMA over.

20 minutes and 27 secondsOkay. So, that's that.

20 minutes and 28 secondsAnd the campaign is going well.

20 minutes and 30 secondsWhat's that at now? I don't have my phone.

20 minutes and 31 seconds-Three point five-- -Three point five five.

20 minutes and 32 secondsFive five? Nice.

20 minutes and 34 secondsOh, man! It'd be nice to hit four.

20 minutes and 36 secondsWould be cool!

20 minutes and 37 secondsUh, we are going to be doing a livestream tomorrow in here.

20 minutes and 40 secondsIt'll be a big old hootenanny for the final hours.

20 minutes and 42 secondsWhich will end tomorrow... 1 PM.

20 minutes and 45 secondsUh, thank you!

20 minutes and 46 secondsAny other questions for me and the doll?

20 minutes and 49 secondsOh, what a lovely pose you gave her.

20 minutes and 51 secondsThat's nice.

20 minutes and 54 seconds-She'll never... -Balancing.

20 minutes and 56 seconds-Wah! -GREG: Cute!

20 minutes and 59 secondsAll right!

21 minutes and 0 seconds\[PIANO IS BEING PLAYED\]

21 minutes and 6 secondsTIM: We still have a minute to go, Peter! Keep going!

21 minutes and 7 seconds-\[LAUGHTER\] -\[PETER STARTS PLAYING AGAIN\]

21 minutes and 12 secondsPAUL: Another campaign.

21 minutes and 14 secondsTIM: Woo-o-o! Yeah, it's done!

21 minutes and 15 secondsI secretly hoped it would go to four million, but... it got close.

21 minutes and 18 secondsWell, the first time was an unbelievable miracle.

21 minutes and 22 secondsThis time, you know, kind of just by setting the goal at 3.3 million,

21 minutes and 26 secondswe are like: "The miracle has to happen again."

21 minutes and 29 secondsSo, it can't be seen as a miracle. It has to be, like, business as usual.

21 minutes and 32 secondsThis is what we need.

21 minutes and 33 secondsUm, and it got it. And so it's really rewarding

21 minutes and 35 secondsthat everyone, you know, got behind it.

21 minutes and 37 secondsAnd it's amazing that we are going to get to make the game.

21 minutes and 40 secondsBut it does feel different, because the first one was just like:

21 minutes and 42 seconds"What?! How can this even happen?! Where'd this money come from?!"

21 minutes and 46 secondsBut since we want-- We want it to be kind of--

21 minutes and 48 secondsIn some ways we want crowdfunding to be a little more boring.

21 minutes and 52 secondsIn that we want it to be an everyday, common experience for funding games.

21 minutes and 56 seconds\[MUSIC\]

21 minutes and 58 secondsSo, just another day at Double Fine.

21 minutes and 59 secondsA bunch of people gave us millions of dollars.

22 minutes and 1 secondWe are going to make a game.

22 minutes and 2 secondsNo big...

22 minutes and 3 secondsTIM: Um, and most of all,

22 minutes and 4 secondsI want to thank all of our backers for making this possible.

22 minutes and 7 secondsYou guys have always been our boss.

22 minutes and 9 secondsAnd now you are directly our boss without any middleman.

22 minutes and 11 secondsSo, uh, I look forward to making this game with you,

22 minutes and 14 secondsand all of you, people.

22 minutes and 16 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

22 minutes and 19 secondsAnd now we can! So, thank you!

22 minutes and 20 seconds\[MUSIC\]

22 minutes and 49 secondsRemember, your character is Chad.

22 minutes and 51 secondsAnd you are the "project leader" of this game.

22 minutes and 55 secondsIt's called Rhombus of Ruin.

22 minutes and 56 secondsIt's a VR game featuring these characters from Psychonauts.

22 minutes and 59 secondsCHAD: By Double Fine.

23 minutes and 0 secondsYou got your lines last night, right?

23 minutes and 4 secondsDon't ever tell anyone that we fake all of this footage.

Don't ever tell anyone that we fake all of this footage.
