## Episode Transcript

15 secondsTIM: You and me, mister Bun, we are going to be tight.

17 secondsYeah.

18 secondsUh, Ray has been here, as you know, for, like, 800 years.

22 secondsHe made, I think,

23 secondsone of the very first cutscenes we've ever had as a company.

25 secondsI think anyone who's worked here for a long time,

26 secondshas kind of counted on Ray.

28 secondsEven though he is a very quiet presence in the office, he is a very constant one.

31 seconds-\[RAY CHUCKLES\] -\[LAUGHTER\]

34 secondsThat was not supposed to get a laugh, I don't know why that got a laugh.

36 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

37 seconds-Yeah. -TIM: Um...

39 secondsTIM: He is one of those people, I think,

39 secondsthat you can feel like you, um, count on always being there.

43 secondsIf you have a problem, you feel like you can go talk to Ray.

45 secondsYou know, knowing Ray outside the office,

46 secondshe has a life that's, like, a philosophy about service to others,

49 secondsand putting other people's needs before your own.

51 secondsAnd I think he has shown that here at the office, to all of us.

53 secondsSo, thank you, Ray, for that.

55 seconds-Thanks, Tim. -\[CLAPPING\]

57 seconds\[MUSIC\]

1 minute and 29 secondsTIM: Ray Crook and Chad Dawson will be co-project leading GVR.

1 minute and 33 secondsPAUL: That looks like Psychonauts.

1 minute and 35 secondsCool! I'm glad. That's good to hear.

1 minute and 36 secondsANDY: The game was announced,

1 minute and 37 secondswhich is really, really cool.

1 minute and 38 seconds\[TIM SCREAMS\]

1 minute and 39 seconds\[TIM LAUGHS\]

1 minute and 41 secondsPAUL: It's all slowly starting to happen.

1 minute and 43 secondsANDY: In preparation for any sort of E3 demo...

1 minute and 46 secondsThose would be near-final.

1 minute and 48 secondsNot near-final.

1 minute and 50 secondsFinal.

1 minute and 51 seconds\[CLAPPING\]

1 minute and 55 secondsTIM: Okay!

1 minute and 56 secondsLet's find out what happened last week in the world of business and PR.

1 minute and 59 secondsYes, we were down in LA.

2 minutes and 0 secondsSo, we were doing a lot of Grasslands pitching meetings down there.

2 minutes and 4 secondsUm...

2 minutes and 5 secondsThe big ones were Annapurna, 505, and Warner Bros. for Grasslands.

2 minutes and 10 secondsAnd they all went well.

2 minutes and 11 secondsI felt like they were all steps in the right direction.

2 minutes and 14 secondsThen we can just talk about...

2 minutes and 16 secondsZak and who he appreciates.

2 minutes and 18 seconds-ZAK: Oh! My appreciation babies. -TIM: It has been a long week...

2 minutes and 19 secondsTIM: ...of appreciating Zak.

2 minutes and 20 secondsI was not here actually for a lot of it,

2 minutes and 22 secondsso I didn't get to appreciate them as much.

2 minutes and 23 seconds-We were down in LA. -TIM: ...appreciating you from the road.

2 minutes and 24 secondsYes, they were here, just holding onto my desk.

2 minutes and 26 secondsUm, we traveled to LA,

2 minutes and 27 secondsand we did, uh, awesome set of presentations for Psychonauts.

2 minutes and 33 secondsUm, and that was really a lot of--

2 minutes and 34 secondsthe first time a lot of that information was in one place,

2 minutes and 37 secondsor even written down.

2 minutes and 37 secondsAnd a team of little elves actually worked behind the scenes

2 minutes and 40 secondsto make an awesome presentation out of a big giant doc.

2 minutes and 42 secondsSo, I was actually going to appreciate Say.

2 minutes and 45 seconds\[CLAPPING\]

2 minutes and 51 secondsSo, thank you!

2 minutes and 52 secondsTIM: Don't hide behind Gabe, we see you back there.

2 minutes and 54 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

2 minutes and 55 secondsTIM: Direct line of appreciation.

2 minutes and 57 secondsOkay, um, that's basically-- Do you want to say anything on Grasslands?

3 minutes and 0 seconds-No, there was a lot of progress. -TIM: Yep.

3 minutes and 2 secondsTIM: What about GVR? The Rhombus of Ruin.

3 minutes and 5 secondsWe just extended our milestone, I think, a week, right?

3 minutes and 8 secondsEveryone is focused on the jet, except for a few artists.

3 minutes and 11 secondsUh, Miyuki joins us today, which is awesome.

3 minutes and 14 secondsWelcome Miyuki on the team.

3 minutes and 16 secondsYeah. So, it's exciting!

3 minutes and 17 seconds\[MUSIC\]

3 minutes and 18 secondsZAK: You know, things that are selectable,

3 minutes and 20 secondsas they are close to the middle of your view,

3 minutes and 22 secondshave some sort of glow about them.

3 minutes and 23 secondsAnd then as they pull into the middle of your view...

3 minutes and 26 seconds-CHAD: They get a stronger glow? -ZAK: Yeah, they get a stronger glow.

3 minutes and 28 secondsZAK: So, you can tell when something is selectable

3 minutes and 30 secondsin the general area of your field of view, and then as you move into it...

3 minutes and 33 secondsCool, and then it just seems like there needs to be a lot more sort of...

3 minutes and 37 seconds-...reaction of the world. -Stuff you can poke?

3 minutes and 38 secondsStuff you can poke, stuff you can flip, things you can open,

3 minutes and 41 secondsluggage you can look at.

3 minutes and 42 secondsUm, yeah...

3 minutes and 45 secondsWe are going to need to have something for E3.

3 minutes and 47 seconds-RAY: Yeah. -We are going to.

3 minutes and 49 secondsI guarantee you it's going to to come up in the next two weeks.

3 minutes and 51 secondsThey are going to: "Oh, we've decided-- Sony wants, and we have to."

3 minutes and 53 seconds-And we are gonna have to show something. -RAY: Okay.

3 minutes and 55 secondsAnd if we want to show just the jet...

3 minutes and 57 secondsI mean, I was worried that that's not going to be enough.

3 minutes and 59 secondsBut after, like, I talked with you, you know.

4 minutes and 1 secondIf everyone is kind of confident that: "No, I think that'll be enough."

4 minutes and 3 secondsThat's fine, we can do that.

4 minutes and 4 secondsAnd then it's a matter of:

4 minutes and 6 seconds"Okay... What PSI powers? Where are the effects at?"

4 minutes and 10 seconds-ANDY: Loading, frame rate, targeting. -CHAD: Animations.

4 minutes and 13 seconds-Yeah, lots of animation. -ANDY: All that stuff has to come from--

4 minutes and 15 seconds-Lip sync. Eye tracking? Head tracking? -ANDY: Yep.

4 minutes and 18 secondsRAY: I mean, I don't think any of it-- None of it is throwaway work, right?

4 minutes and 20 seconds-RAY: It's all stuff we'll be using again. -No, no, that's true.

4 minutes and 23 seconds\[MUSIC\]

4 minutes and 24 secondsYeah.

4 minutes and 27 secondsWe are trying to do a big push for E3.

4 minutes and 29 secondsCHAD: Sony is really particular on what they show,

4 minutes and 32 secondsand kind of wants to put together a best showing.

4 minutes and 35 secondsAnd I don't think either us or them want to show the game if it's not ready.

4 minutes and 39 secondsSo, that's still to be determined.

4 minutes and 43 secondsAll the polish and stuff that takes it from that,

4 minutes and 45 secondswhich is way pre-Alpha...

4 minutes and 49 seconds...to probably, like, Alpha or Beta level,

4 minutes and 51 secondswhich you want to show at E3...

4 minutes and 53 seconds...is a lot of polish.

4 minutes and 56 secondsRAY: And we are not-- We are not a 100% percent sure

4 minutes and 59 secondsif we are going to be able to pull it off or not.

5 minutes and 1 secondUm, I don't think it jeopardizes the project.

5 minutes and 3 secondsUm, I-- I hope not.

5 minutes and 5 secondsBut, um...

5 minutes and 6 secondsIt would be nice if we had it a little bit farther.

5 minutes and 10 secondsTIM: And-- and you never know.

5 minutes and 11 secondsI don't know what people expect from VR, because a lot of people are--

5 minutes and 13 secondsYou know, there was this-- There was this year

5 minutes and 15 secondswhere everyone was making just things you watched.

5 minutes and 17 secondsAnd then things you interacted with that were silly.

5 minutes and 20 secondsAnd as we are starting to get into where:

5 minutes and 21 seconds"Okay, we are not making just things that are ridiculous.

5 minutes and 25 secondsAnd we are not making things that just-- things you watch anymore."

5 minutes and 27 secondsThey gotta-- should be cool.

5 minutes and 29 secondsAnd I think that's what we are making.

5 minutes and 31 secondsUh, but who knows what's gonna be launched alongside of us.

5 minutes and 34 secondsRAY: We'll just see where we can get.

5 minutes and 36 secondsIt just always feels like things go slower than we want them to, um...

5 minutes and 39 secondsI think the hardest thing has been working with a new engine.

5 minutes and 41 secondsIt's been ha-- it's been... difficult.

5 minutes and 44 secondsRUSTY: How can other people work on the same level I'm working on,

5 minutes and 47 secondsso that I don't stomp on their work, and they don't stomp on mine.

5 minutes and 49 secondsWhich, I think, has happened.

5 minutes and 51 secondsEven today maybe that's already happened.

5 minutes and 54 secondsSo, I think, that's the hardest part.

5 minutes and 56 secondsFiguring out best practices for, you know, lighting.

6 minutes and 0 secondsLike, that's what Levi was working on: "What's the best way to light this?"

6 minutes and 4 secondsAnd-- and work with a programmer to say:

6 minutes and 6 seconds"Well, if you actually want it to run at 60 frames per second,

6 minutes and 8 secondsyou can't do this, this, or this."

6 minutes and 10 seconds\[RUSTY LAUGHS\]

6 minutes and 10 secondsSo, Levi is kind of destroying performance.

6 minutes and 12 seconds-And Aaron is looking into performance. -\[LAUGHTER\]

6 minutes and 15 seconds-TIM: Good teamwork! -RAY: It's about them working together.

6 minutes and 18 secondsAARON: That's always a tricky part of my job is...

6 minutes and 20 secondsArtist will go in and makes it look absolutely beautiful.

6 minutes and 22 secondsAnd I have to come in and say:

6 minutes and 23 seconds"Well, we have to adjust this a little this way or that way."

6 minutes and 26 secondsAnd I don't like having to-- having to do that.

6 minutes and 29 secondsAARON: Because you have to render two images instead of one.

6 minutes and 32 secondsUm, you have to render those images at a higher resolution than most games,

6 minutes and 36 secondsand pretty much than any game does.

6 minutes and 37 secondsWhich is asking for a lot.

6 minutes and 39 secondsBasically if it's complaining about objects that need to be baked...

6 minutes and 42 secondsWhatever object it is complaining about,

6 minutes and 44 secondsinstead of using baked lightning, it will calculate it at runtime...

6 minutes and 46 secondsI got my seat back! Nice!

6 minutes and 51 secondsRAY: Just, like, yeah-- That just makes the process slow.

6 minutes and 55 secondsRAY: Our team, we are kind of--

6 minutes and 57 secondsYou know, we are taking kind of a hit because of that.

7 minutes and 0 secondsBut, um, I think in the end it'll--

7 minutes and 2 secondsit'll be super helpful for the next project.

7 minutes and 4 secondsZAK: ...and start building this out into the rest of Raz's movement set.

7 minutes and 7 secondsAnd it'll probably be all floaty and control really badly for a long time.

7 minutes and 10 seconds-ZAK: Because that's a hard thing to do. -TIM: No, that's done, that's good.

13 minutes and 21 seconds"Okay, great. Awesome!"

13 minutes and 22 secondsBut that is a good sign.

13 minutes and 24 secondsE3... was a great show!

13 minutes and 26 secondsHere is the E3 report.

13 minutes and 27 secondsStop licking the furniture, Aaron.

13 minutes and 29 secondsTIM: Uh, Rhombus of Ruin was nominated for best of--

13 minutes and 32 secondsBest VR experience of the show from IGN, right?

13 minutes and 34 seconds-ANDY: Yep. -Congratulations.

13 minutes and 36 seconds-\[CLAPPING\] -TIM: Yes!

13 minutes and 38 secondsThey had the added benefit when they played

13 minutes and 40 secondsthat when the plane crashed Spaff would shake their chair.

13 minutes and 43 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

13 minutes and 45 secondsCHAD: Spaff effect.

13 minutes and 46 secondsUm...

13 minutes and 47 secondsBack here, though, team was hard at work.

13 minutes and 48 secondsWe are progressing on all the rest of our levels.

13 minutes and 51 secondsBut the team is cranking.

13 minutes and 52 secondsWe are in full-- full production now.

13 minutes and 55 secondsSo, it's nice to see the stuff coming along.

13 minutes and 57 secondsANDY: Up until now, Sony has been very kind with us.

13 minutes and 59 secondsBecause we've only showed them very, very little of the game.

14 minutes and 2 seconds"Okay, this little, small level you've made looks cool.

14 minutes and 5 secondsBut where is the rest?

14 minutes and 8 secondsI'm still a little worried on clarification

14 minutes and 10 secondson how much we are gonna get programming. Every time we do that leads meeting...

14 minutes and 14 secondsI was talking to Ray, it's, like...

14 minutes and 16 secondsLee is saying: "We are pushing off more of the programming to later."

14 minutes and 19 secondsRight? And they haven't even started on--

14 minutes and 21 secondsOh, we are not getting any of the Headlander programmers.

14 minutes and 23 seconds-That's my conclusion, yeah. -No, no, no way.

14 minutes and 26 secondsLike, even Matt Enright wouldn't come on?

14 minutes and 28 secondsANDY: Oh, no, Matt Enright we are going to get.

14 minutes and 29 secondsI will get Matt Enright if I have to kick and scream, and full-on fight.

14 minutes and 32 secondsCHAD: He is their main guy on the Xbox port,

14 minutes and 34 secondswhich they haven't really started yet.

14 minutes and 35 secondsANDY: We are slated to get him. I've made it clear.

14 minutes and 38 secondsI mean, I don't know, you know...

14 minutes and 39 secondsIf we have to have a fight about it, when the time comes,

14 minutes and 41 secondsI guess we'll fight about it.

14 minutes and 43 secondsOkay, we'll have to see.

14 minutes and 45 secondsUm, so...

14 minutes and 49 secondsI should talk to Andy, I have already talked to you.

14 minutes and 50 secondsCHAD: Right, right.

14 minutes and 51 secondsUm...

14 minutes and 53 secondsSo, probably in July, I'm going to be moving.

14 minutes and 57 secondsMoving where?

14 minutes and 58 secondsTo Utah, with my family.

15 minutes and 2 secondsSo, um...

15 minutes and 4 secondsThat makes me a sad panda.

15 minutes and 6 secondsYeah...

15 minutes and 7 seconds-CHAD: Me too. -RAY: Yeah.

15 minutes and 8 secondsRAY: Me too in a lot of ways it does.

15 minutes and 11 secondsRAY: And I've been here for--

15 minutes and 12 secondsRAY: I mean, I've been at the studio for about fift--

15 minutes and 14 secondsfor over 15 years now, I guess.

15 minutes and 16 secondsAnd, um...

15 minutes and 18 secondsI've been in the Bay Area for, I think, 19 years?

15 minutes and 24 secondsIt's getting harder and harder

15 minutes and 26 secondsto, um, sort of make the life here that we want to-- to have.

15 minutes and 32 secondsWe needed to make-- Our family needed to make a change.

15 minutes and 35 secondsAnd-- and, um...

15 minutes and 37 secondsWe were going to, you know...

15 minutes and 40 secondsYou know, pack up and leave the area, um, this summer.

15 minutes and 44 secondsSo, um...

15 minutes and 46 secondsBut...

15 minutes and 47 secondsUh, and then, you know,

15 minutes and 49 secondsbut Double Fine is a really hard place to leave.

15 minutes and 52 secondsIt's a-- It's a really special place, and, um...

15 minutes and 55 secondsBut that was the plan.

15 minutes and 56 secondsBut then Tim, uh, was just, you know, like, kind enough.

16 minutes and 1 secondAnd he just said: "Hey, why don't you work for us remotely?"

16 minutes and 5 secondsSo, and, and, and-- And it works out sometimes.

16 minutes and 7 secondsIt-- it works out for some people.

16 minutes and 9 secondsIt doesn't work out for-- for everybody.

16 minutes and 12 secondsUm, but he was willing to, uh, let me give that a shot.

16 minutes and 16 secondsSee if it-- you know, see if it works for me.

16 minutes and 18 secondsSee if it works for the company.

16 minutes and 20 secondsI can't work in a-- in a managerial role.

16 minutes and 22 seconds-No, no. -So...

16 minutes and 23 seconds-No, you can do the animation work. -Yeah.

16 minutes and 25 secondsSo, that's basically-- I'll be a-- I'll be a content creator.

16 minutes and 29 seconds-ANDY: Right. -RAY: Um...

16 minutes and 30 secondsANDY: And secretly,

16 minutes and 32 secondsthere is almost a part of me that kind of goes:

16 minutes and 34 seconds"Excellent, I get one more animator."

16 minutes and 36 seconds\[ANDY CHUCKLES\]

16 minutes and 37 secondsSo, I'll just be-- I'll be animating.

16 minutes and 40 secondsUm...

16 minutes and 41 secondsWhich is a kind of nice feeling.

16 minutes and 43 secondsI mean, that-- I think, I'm--

16 minutes and 45 secondsI love doing that.

16 minutes and 46 secondsI mean, I'm fine with just-- just being an animator.

16 minutes and 48 secondsBut it's hard as you get-- as you get older,

16 minutes and 50 secondsyou know, I'm in my forties now, and it's, like,

16 minutes and 52 secondsit's sort of a natural progression, I think,

16 minutes and 54 secondsfor animators or artists, I don't--

16 minutes and 57 secondsmaybe even programmers, probably is-- is you kind of move--

17 minutes and 1 secondyou move into-- you know, you start managing people.

17 minutes and 4 secondsUm, and, uh...

17 minutes and 7 secondsAnd that's where I was moving into.

17 minutes and 9 secondsAnd now, I'm kind of, like, going back.

17 minutes and 12 secondsSo-- so, I'm not sure, yeah. It's interesting.

17 minutes and 16 secondsSenior Animator.

17 minutes and 18 secondsLead Animator.

17 minutes and 19 seconds\[RAY CHUCKLES\]

17 minutes and 22 secondsAnd now back to... Senior Animator.

17 minutes and 24 secondsSo I guess I'll be using those.

17 minutes and 26 secondsI can go back to those old cards.

17 minutes and 28 secondsRAY: Um, but that was--

17 minutes and 30 secondsThat sort of weighed heavy on me, because I knew that

17 minutes and 33 secondsIt's going to put an extra burden on-- on Chad.

17 minutes and 37 secondsYeah, we'll see.

17 minutes and 38 secondsI mean, Ray has, you know, been around the company a long time, so...

17 minutes and 43 secondsIt...

17 minutes and 45 secondsIt will shift things a little bit.

17 minutes and 47 secondsHe's been pretty responsible about it, as you'd expect.

17 minutes and 50 secondsAnd, uh, as with any transition, you know, it's a lot of big choices.

17 minutes and 54 secondsAnd-- and timing is pretty critical.

17 minutes and 57 secondsUm...

17 minutes and 58 secondsHopefully, you know, it doesn't demoralize the team too much.

18 minutes and 3 secondsI mean, everybody, you know, likes Ray,

18 minutes and 5 secondsand likes working with him.

18 minutes and 6 secondsSo, uh, I am going to be moving, um...

18 minutes and 10 secondsSo I'll be leaving the state.

18 minutes and 12 secondsSo, um...

18 minutes and 14 secondsI'm just, uh, letting you guys know that.

18 minutes and 16 secondsANDY: And I told everybody when we announced to the team, you know,

18 minutes and 19 secondsI think there were a lot of people that might have been upset about it,

18 minutes and 20 secondsbut I said: "He is still going to be here.

18 minutes and 23 secondsYou are still going to be interfacing with him every week.

18 minutes and 24 secondsYou are still going to be chatting with him.

18 minutes and 26 secondsHe is still going to be video calling us in."

18 minutes and 29 secondsRAY: But I will, uh, be turning over my duties as Art Director.

18 minutes and 34 secondsUm, to-- Dave Russell has agreed to take that on.

18 minutes and 39 secondsRUSTY: Okay, well, I'm sad.

18 minutes and 40 secondsBut it's not really a surprise for me that he is actually going to do it.

18 minutes and 43 secondsBecause, like I said, he's talked about this for years, it's just like:

18 minutes and 47 seconds"As soon as this project is done, we are going to leave.

18 minutes and 49 secondsAs soon as this project is done...

18 minutes and 51 secondsOh, but that project is new and sounds cool,

18 minutes and 53 secondswe'll stay for that one, and then I'll leave.

18 minutes and 55 secondsSo, when he actually-- he IM'd me, and he is like:

18 minutes and 58 seconds"I have this amazing opportunity for you."

19 minutes and 0 secondsI'm like: "Oh, shit!"

19 minutes and 1 second\[LAUGHTER\]

19 minutes and 2 seconds"I know what this is!"

19 minutes and 5 secondsAnd it was.

19 minutes and 6 secondsSo, let's talk about babies.

19 minutes and 8 secondsRay?

19 minutes and 9 secondsYou've been appreciated. You are probably sick...

19 minutes and 11 seconds-TIM: ...of being appreciated. -RAY: For way too long.

19 minutes and 12 seconds-I'm really tired of being appreciated. -TIM: Yeah, yeah.

19 minutes and 14 secondsTIM: Any last appreciations?

19 minutes and 16 secondsLast minute appreciations of Ray?

19 minutes and 17 secondsYeah, so this will be-- This is a-- yeah!

19 minutes and 20 secondsI mean, this was difficult, um,

19 minutes and 23 secondsbecause the whole team worked really hard, getting the build up, but...

19 minutes and 25 secondsI am going to be not working in the office anymore,

19 minutes and 29 secondsand I'm very sad about that.

19 minutes and 30 secondsAnd so, there is somebody that I have worked with

19 minutes and 33 secondsfor almost 18 years.

19 minutes and 35 secondsUm, who I've always appreciated, and love, and care dearly about.

19 minutes and 41 secondsBastard, yeah.

19 minutes and 42 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

19 minutes and 44 secondsRAY: Every time I get to work with him on a project,

19 minutes and 45 secondsI'm excited, even after all these years.

19 minutes and 47 secondsAnd that would be mister Dave Russell.

19 minutes and 49 secondsWoo!

19 minutes and 50 seconds\[CLAPPING\]

20 minutes and 2 secondsTIM: You are trying to make me cry. I'm not going to do it.

20 minutes and 4 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

20 minutes and 5 secondsI'm not going to have feelings, but that almost got me.

20 minutes and 7 seconds\[TIM CHUCKLES\]

20 minutes and 10 secondsRUSTY: So, you know, I'm sad that he is leaving,

20 minutes and 12 secondsbut we've been friends for so long.

20 minutes and 13 secondsI mean he is just part of my family.

20 minutes and 16 secondsSo, you know how it is with family.

20 minutes and 17 secondsYou don't see them for a while, it doesn't mean anything's changed, so.

20 minutes and 23 secondsI just won't see his face everyday.

20 minutes and 25 secondsRAY: I will miss, um, being in the studio.

20 minutes and 28 secondsI mean, I love coming to work. People are amazing.

20 minutes and 31 secondsUh, Tim, you know...

20 minutes and 33 secondsI love just having Tim around.

20 minutes and 35 secondsUm, he is, you know, he is a...

20 minutes and 38 secondsHe is a good friend now, and, um...

20 minutes and 41 secondsI'll miss that.

20 minutes and 42 seconds\[MUSIC\]

20 minutes and 46 secondsOh, yeah...

20 minutes and 48 secondsWhat else is in here?

20 minutes and 49 secondsYeah, so I was mentioning, these are the gloves.

20 minutes and 51 secondsDave, you remember these? These are the gloves.

20 minutes and 53 secondsRUSTY: The fingerless gloves.

20 minutes and 54 secondsThese are from when we didn't have heat in the old building.

20 minutes and 59 secondsAnd so we would just work in these.

21 minutes and 1 secondYeah, ugh... sorry.

21 minutes and 5 secondsRen & Stimpy. Some good stuff.

21 minutes and 8 secondsI've been here for so long, it just doesn't...

21 minutes and 12 secondsI don't think it's set in yet, that I actually won't be here.

21 minutes and 15 secondsIt's funny though, because--

21 minutes and 17 secondsbecause I do things now, you know, everything is like:

21 minutes and 19 seconds"Oh, this is the last time. This is the last time."

21 minutes and 22 secondsLike, everything that-- Everything I do, uh, I say:

21 minutes and 27 seconds"So, this is the last time."

21 minutes and 30 secondsGotta take my lights down.

21 minutes and 33 seconds\[MUSIC\]

21 minutes and 34 seconds\[RAY GRUNTS\]

21 minutes and 37 secondsSad.

21 minutes and 38 secondsOld...

21 minutes and 40 seconds...stuff.

21 minutes and 42 secondsThis one-- Oh, yeah, this is, uh--

21 minutes and 43 secondsThis is me, Scott, and Tim.

21 minutes and 46 secondsThis is when, um...

21 minutes and 49 secondswe went to New York for Once Upon a Monster.

21 minutes and 51 secondsAnd then Scott invited us over to his house.

21 minutes and 53 secondsWe went up on his roof, and, uh, just hung out.

21 minutes and 56 secondsIt was really-- it was really fun.

21 minutes and 58 seconds\[MUSIC\]

22 minutes and 6 secondsTIM: Good lord, um...

22 minutes and 7 secondsSo, uh...

22 minutes and 8 seconds-No, Ray Crook is not leaving Double Fine. -RAY: No.

22 minutes and 11 secondsBut he is not going to be in the office anymore.

22 minutes and 13 secondsSo, uh, we wanted to have one more chance

22 minutes and 16 secondsto make him feel as bad as possible about moving.

22 minutes and 19 secondsSo, that's all of our goal is here today.

22 minutes and 21 secondsSo he misses us as much as possible,

22 minutes and 23 secondsand just never feels quite good about leaving.

22 minutes and 26 secondsAnd we are going to maybe have

22 minutes and 28 secondssome sort of sexy robot telepresence for Ray.

22 minutes and 30 secondsHopefully one of those Segway iPad things.

22 minutes and 32 secondsRAY: Oh, yeah, I hope so.

22 minutes and 34 secondsUh, Ray is--

22 minutes and 34 secondsWe used to joke about how every time he had an anniversary--

22 minutes and 37 seconds-When he stayed here-- at five years... -RAY: Yeah.

22 minutes and 38 secondsHe'd be like:

22 minutes and 39 seconds"You know, it's my anniversary coming up, it's five years."

22 minutes and 41 secondsAnd I'd be like: "Yeah." And he goes:

22 minutes and 42 seconds"What if I-- What if you gave out people when it's their anniversary,

22 minutes and 45 secondslike, a piece of concept art?"

22 minutes and 46 secondsAnd I was like: "Oh, that's really nice! No."

22 minutes and 48 seconds-We are not going to give out concept art. -\[LAUGHTER\]

22 minutes and 50 secondsBecause that's-- that's one of a kind piece of art.

22 minutes and 52 secondsIt's, like, I love art.

22 minutes and 53 secondsYou know, I've always been-- really valued art,

22 minutes and 56 secondsand the artists we work with, and that's, like, the family jewels,

22 minutes and 58 secondsand you can't have it.

22 minutes and 59 seconds\[TIM CHUCKLES\]

23 minutes and 0 secondsAnd then he asked again at 10 years, like: "What about just some little thing?"

23 minutes and 3 secondsI was like: "No!"

23 minutes and 4 secondsAnd then on 15-year we gave him a little trophy

23 minutes and 6 secondshoping he would shut up about it.

23 minutes and 8 secondsUm, and he did kind of. He stopped asking about it.

23 minutes and 11 secondsAnd then, when we really-- we were faced with Ray actually leaving,

23 minutes and 14 secondsand thinking about what Ray actually meant to the company...

23 minutes and 16 secondsUm...

23 minutes and 18 secondsI was like: "Okay, I should give him something.

23 minutes and 20 secondsAnd really, I should give him the...

23 minutes and 23 secondsA number one piece of art that the company has."

23 minutes and 25 secondsWhich is the original drawings of Raz.

23 minutes and 27 seconds-Oh, wow, no! -This is for you.

23 minutes and 28 secondsANNA: Wha-a-at!

23 minutes and 30 secondsRAY: Jeez.

23 minutes and 31 seconds\[CLAPPING\]

23 minutes and 40 secondsWow, you didn't need to do that.

23 minutes and 42 secondsYou didn't have to do that, Tim.

23 minutes and 43 secondsWow! That's... wow.

23 minutes and 45 secondsTIM: Um, Scott Campbell, did them on, um...

23 minutes and 47 secondsAll over this brown paper shopping bag, and then he tore them up,

23 minutes and 50 secondsand he pasted them up, so he could scan it.

23 minutes and 52 secondsAnd... I was digging around in the back.

23 minutes and 54 secondsAnd I haven't seen it, it wasn't up on the wall.

23 minutes and 56 secondsWe've always had a color xerox of it.

23 minutes and 58 secondsUm, and I never found it.

24 minutes and 1 secondAnd then I found that black folder, back there, covered with dust.

24 minutes and 4 secondsAnd I opened it up, and someone had started framing it,

24 minutes and 6 secondsand-- and mounted it, and I was like:

24 minutes and 8 seconds"Oh, I gotta finish this up, and give it to Ray."

24 minutes and 10 secondsAnd so, I gave it to Ray.

24 minutes and 12 secondsAnd it was really hard. I did get really, um,

24 minutes and 13 secondsthat kind of involuntary, uh, tightening of your throat

24 minutes and 16 secondswhen I was talking about it, because it was, um...

24 minutes and 19 secondsBecause I wanted Ray to know that he-- that he meant a lot to us.

24 minutes and 23 secondsRAY: All of us nice people, we are all hiding things.

24 minutes and 25 secondsBRAD: What are you hiding, Ray?

24 minutes and 34 seconds\[SIRENS BLARING\]

24 minutes and 36 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

24 minutes and 48 seconds\[MUSIC\]

24 minutes and 55 secondsTIM: It was a big switch that happened in my mind of like:

24 minutes and 58 seconds"I could never give this stuff away."

24 minutes and 59 secondsTo, like: "Of course we should give this to Ray."

25 minutes and 1 secondBecause, it shouldn't be sitting back in a file somewhere,

25 minutes and 4 secondsin a dusty old folder.

25 minutes and 5 secondsIt should be up on Ray's wall.

25 minutes and 9 seconds\[CLAPPING\]

25 minutes and 15 secondsDo I have to stand up? Don't make me stand up.

25 minutes and 17 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

25 minutes and 18 secondsRAY: Tim was always very encouraging, and, uh, and...

25 minutes and 22 seconds...you know, said that he wanted me to do what I felt I needed to do.

25 minutes and 25 secondsBut, um...

25 minutes and 27 secondsBut then, of course, a new project would come.

25 minutes and 28 secondsAnd then we'd get busy.

25 minutes and 29 secondsAnd then I just felt: "Okay, I can't-- I can't leave."

25 minutes and 32 secondsPlus, I just love working here.

25 minutes and 34 secondsUm, I love, uh, this studio.

25 minutes and 37 secondsUm...

25 minutes and 38 secondsIt's the reason that, um...

25 minutes and 41 secondswe are still here,

25 minutes and 42 secondsthat we haven't, uh, moved.

25 minutes and 44 secondsUm, because of Tim, and because of all of you.

25 minutes and 48 secondsAnd because of the amazing, uh, work that we get to do here.

25 minutes and 51 secondsJust thank you all for making it, uh, wonderful, uh, enriching part of my life.

25 minutes and 57 secondsAnd, uh, I am going to miss all of you.

25 minutes and 59 secondsI will be coming back here and there.

26 minutes and 1 secondSo, I'm really excited about that.

26 minutes and 3 secondsAnd you guys are always welcome to come out.

26 minutes and 5 secondsSo, please, know that there is always an open door

26 minutes and 8 secondsand a warm bed for you, if you, um...

26 minutes and 11 secondsif you make it out that way.

26 minutes and 12 secondsUh, I'd really-- I'd really love it, if you came by.

26 minutes and 15 secondsSo, that's it. Um, thank you, Tim.

26 minutes and 17 secondsThanks for-- for everything,

26 minutes and 19 secondsand for the past 15 years.

26 minutes and 21 secondsWhat an enriching experience.

26 minutes and 24 secondsAnd so, I hope for many more.

26 minutes and 26 secondsSo, thanks, everybody!

26 minutes and 27 seconds-TIM: Ray! All right! -\[CLAPPING\]

26 minutes and 30 secondsTIM: I was so excited to see that was the actual torn up paper.

26 minutes and 32 secondsRAY: Yeah, it's, like, the original thing that Scott did.

26 minutes and 35 seconds-Mm-hmm. -No, if you, I mean...

26 minutes and 37 seconds-No, if you ever need this... -We'll know where it is.

26 minutes and 39 seconds-We know where it is. -Yeah, okay.

26 minutes and 40 seconds-Come, have some of that root beer. -Okay.

26 minutes and 42 secondsRAY: Thanks, Tim.

26 minutes and 43 seconds\[MUSIC\]

26 minutes and 45 seconds\[INDISTINCT CHATTERING\]

26 minutes and 49 seconds\[KEE LAUGHS\]

26 minutes and 50 seconds\[MUSIC\]

27 minutes and 2 secondsOh.

27 minutes and 3 secondsI got a message from Ray.

27 minutes and 4 seconds"We are driving through the Nevada desert with three kids and a hamster."

27 minutes and 7 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

27 minutes and 9 seconds\[MUSIC\]

27 minutes and 37 secondsRAY: The cool thing was when--

27 minutes and 38 secondsSo, I was out for a month, um, for the move.

27 minutes and 40 secondsAnd so I was completely sort of, uh...

27 minutes and 44 secondsdetached from the game.

27 minutes and 45 secondsThere you go, it's good!

27 minutes and 47 secondsRAY: And then to come back, uh,

27 minutes and 49 secondsafter that month, and, like, sync up, and then put the goggles on,

27 minutes and 52 secondsand start playing through...

27 minutes and 54 secondsThat was cool. That was cool to see, um...

27 minutes and 57 secondsTo see a lot of the ideas that we had developed,

28 minutes and 0 secondsum, that were just ideas.

28 minutes and 2 secondsAnd to see those, like, actually implemented and working, and...

28 minutes and 6 secondsAnd sometimes even better.

28 minutes and 8 secondsYou know, they had made better decisions,

28 minutes and 10 secondsthey had adjusted things.

28 minutes and 12 secondsUh, that was-- that was really, really nice to see.

28 minutes and 16 seconds\[MUSIC\]

28 minutes and 23 secondsYeah, the environment is very different,

28 minutes and 25 secondsuh, than what we were used to.

28 minutes and 27 secondsUm...

28 minutes and 33 secondsI go into my office.

28 minutes and 35 secondsI say 'good bye' to everybody, and I just go into my little office here.

28 minutes and 39 secondsOh, let's see who is in. What time is it there?

28 minutes and 41 secondsSo, I always keep this clock here set to California time.

28 minutes and 44 secondsIt's only an hour difference, but it actually helps me remember

28 minutes and 47 secondswhat time it actually is there.

28 minutes and 49 secondsLet's see who's there.

28 minutes and 51 secondsHey, Miyuki!

28 minutes and 53 secondsRAY: It's a little lonely.

28 minutes and 54 secondsBecause I really like everybody at work.

28 minutes and 56 secondsYou know, I love working with all of them, and, um...

29 minutes and 0 secondsIt's kind of inspirational to be around them and motivating.

29 minutes and 3 secondsUm...

29 minutes and 4 secondsBut having the camera on all the time is-- is good,

29 minutes and 7 secondsbecause people actually will come over and say: "Good morning."

29 minutes and 10 secondsAnd... So, it makes you feel like, um...

29 minutes and 14 secondsyou know, a little more attached, um, to the office.

29 minutes and 18 secondsI miss going to lunch with everybody.

29 minutes and 20 secondsYeah, even just, like, seeing them on camera,

29 minutes and 22 secondsand they all get together, and they are all headed out to lunch.

29 minutes and 24 secondsYou know, that's, um...

29 minutes and 26 secondsThat's a little bit sad for me.

29 minutes and 32 seconds\[RAY CHUCKLES\]

29 minutes and 35 secondsRAY: Yeah.

29 minutes and 37 secondsRAY: Yes.

29 minutes and 40 secondsRAY: Yeah, so that's, uh, that's kind of how it works now.

29 minutes and 42 secondsUm, Tim comes over and says 'hi' once in a while.

29 minutes and 45 secondsIf he comes over-- he came over the other day, and I wasn't at my desk,

29 minutes and 48 secondsand he took a picture, and then texted me and said: "Slacker."

29 minutes and 50 secondsOr something like that.

30 minutes and 14 secondsBut, um...

30 minutes and 16 secondsYou know, hopefully we bring a little bit of Northern California here.

30 minutes and 20 secondsBut... when I see my kids out here playing, and, um...

30 minutes and 25 secondsthen I feel pretty good, you know, about the decision.

30 minutes and 28 secondsYou know, when I get to see my parents, because they are getting older.

30 minutes and 31 secondsThat's good too. That feels good.

30 minutes and 33 secondsUm...

30 minutes and 37 secondsMan, there is just certain things that we love here,

30 minutes and 40 secondsthere are certain that we loved there,

30 minutes and 42 secondsand, um, I guess you always just have to sacrifice something.

30 minutes and 44 secondsYou know, and you hope you...

30 minutes and 46 secondsYou hope that you...

30 minutes and 48 secondsThose things you sacrificed, something else makes up for it here.
