## Episode Transcript

18 secondsUm...

20 secondsPAUL: What will you say in the Fig update?

24 secondsHey, Psychobackers!

26 seconds-It's me, Tim! -PAUL: This is you, right now.

28 secondsZak is not here.

29 secondsHe has moved on to other things, and he, uh...

32 secondsWe wish him well.

33 secondsHe definitely worked really hard on this project

34 secondsand made a huge impact.

36 secondsBut now I am the Creative Director of this project.

39 secondsAnd things are going to be different.

41 secondsIt's not going to be a psychic game...

42 seconds\[CHUCKLING\]

44 secondsI don't know, I think it will be something like that.

46 seconds\[MUSIC\]

1 minute and 18 secondsSomeone got arrested at Starbreeze headquarters.

1 minute and 20 secondsThere is a possibility that they do fold.

1 minute and 23 secondsZAK: Really full steam ahead working on Loboto.

1 minute and 25 secondsI think we have to really prove to ourselves that we can make

1 minute and 26 secondsa really great level that we all love.

1 minute and 28 secondsANDY: Tim is like: "People don't seem happy."

1 minute and 30 secondsJOSH: There is, like, finger-pointing happening and stuff.

1 minute and 33 secondsANNA: I mean, you don't need to get defensive.

1 minute and 34 secondsKEE: ...or people just not working well together,

1 minute and 36 secondsthings are going to get tougher.

1 minute and 38 secondsANNA: I think a lot of people are hoping that Tim...

1 minute and 43 seconds...steps in, saves the day.

1 minute and 50 secondsCAMDEN: I came in late to the meeting

1 minute and 53 secondswhere Tim was telling everybody.

1 minute and 54 secondsLike, I was walking--

1 minute and 55 secondsI was actually walking up to see Lee, and Monica was like:

1 minute and 58 seconds("You should-- you should go in there!")

1 minute and 59 seconds\[CAMDEN LAUGHS\]

2 minutes and 0 secondsAnd, uh...

2 minutes and 1 secondUm...

2 minutes and 3 secondsThat's kind of how I found out.

2 minutes and 4 secondsAnd then, like, Caryl took me into her office and spelled it all out.

2 minutes and 8 secondsSo...

2 minutes and 9 secondsI knew something was going to happen.

2 minutes and 10 secondsI didn't know it was going to be that.

2 minutes and 12 secondsUm...

2 minutes and 13 secondsI understand it.

2 minutes and 17 secondsIt's-- it's something that nobody wants to have happen, but...

2 minutes and 23 secondsIt's gotta happen.

2 minutes and 25 secondsI think we've been trying.

2 minutes and 27 secondsI think there's been a few things that's been going on, where it's been--

2 minutes and 31 secondstrying... to work that out.

2 minutes and 34 secondsUh, and I think it got better for a little while.

2 minutes and 38 secondsI don't know what that's about.

2 minutes and 39 secondsLike, for some reason...

2 minutes and 43 secondsuh...

2 minutes and 44 secondsit just started getting bad again.

2 minutes and 47 seconds\[INDISTINCT CHATTERING\]

2 minutes and 54 seconds-Oop, sorry! -GEOFF: Ow!

2 minutes and 56 secondsHi, everybody! Nice to see you all!

2 minutes and 58 secondsThere is so many people here. It's so nice to see you.

3 minutes and 0 secondsHi!

3 minutes and 2 secondsHello!

3 minutes and 3 secondsUm, so, just to start off. First, uh...

3 minutes and 5 secondsI think not everybody may have heard, but most people have heard,

3 minutes and 8 secondswe had some big staff changes on the Psychonauts 2 team.

3 minutes and 11 secondsZak McClendon is no longer the project leader of Psychonauts

3 minutes and 13 secondsand he is no longer an employee at Double Fine.

3 minutes and 15 secondsAnd that was a pretty big, uh... thing to do on Friday.

3 minutes and 19 secondsUm, but there had been some very negative and bad things going on with, um...

3 minutes and 25 secondsuh, some unhappiness, and...

3 minutes and 28 secondsA lot of people know the situation going on on Psychonauts--

3 minutes and 30 secondsAnd we had tried to fix it for many, many months, and...

3 minutes and 32 secondsUh, but, um...

3 minutes and 33 secondsWe tried to do everything we can

3 minutes and 35 secondsto rehabilitate the situation and make it better,

3 minutes and 37 secondsbut it just... it wasn't working.

3 minutes and 38 secondsAnd it was really putting the project in danger in a lot of ways,

3 minutes and 41 secondswith E3 coming up.

3 minutes and 42 secondsUh, we really wanted to make sure that the team was able to do its best work

3 minutes and 46 secondsand make a really great level that we are going to show there.

3 minutes and 49 secondsSo, we took that step and it's done.

3 minutes and 51 seconds\[MUSIC\]

3 minutes and 55 secondsPAUL: Do you feel like if you were more involved

3 minutes and 58 secondsand not... stuck having to write so much,

4 minutes and 1 secondif things would have played out differently.

4 minutes and 15 secondsHmm.

4 minutes and 16 secondsI don't know, like, you know, starting the company...

4 minutes and 19 secondsuh, I was doing all the games myself.

4 minutes and 21 secondsJust do one game at a time.

4 minutes and 23 secondsAnd I felt people wanted to grow beyond where they were in their jobs,

4 minutes and 26 secondsso we started doing multiple projects,

4 minutes and 28 secondswhere other people were given chances to run the projects.

4 minutes and 30 secondsAnd, um...

4 minutes and 32 secondsThat was an advice that actually Ron Gilbert had.

4 minutes and 34 secondsIt's like: "You want to get to the point

4 minutes and 35 secondswhere other people are making games for you."

4 minutes and 36 secondsLike he did with Humongous.

4 minutes and 37 secondsAnd, uh...

4 minutes and 38 secondsUm...

4 minutes and 39 secondsSo I was like: "Oh, that sounds good."

4 minutes and 41 secondsUm...

4 minutes and 42 secondsAnd sometimes that works out, and sometimes it doesn't.

4 minutes and 44 secondsLike, I think in the case of Lee Petty,

4 minutes and 45 secondsI think he runs his projects really great and I don't have to do a thing.

4 minutes and 48 secondsOn RAD...

4 minutes and 49 secondsit's looking amazing, I don't have to stick my nose.

4 minutes and 51 secondsIf I stick my nose in, it's just to sabotage it,

4 minutes and 53 secondsbecause I'm jealous.

4 minutes and 54 secondsIt is going great.

4 minutes and 55 secondsUm...

4 minutes and 56 secondsAnd we've had other projects where that wasn't the case, and...

5 minutes and 0 secondsAnd sometimes I feel like the most stress I've had on the project was--

5 minutes and 3 secondsthe most stress I've had at the company is trying to...

5 minutes and 7 secondsyou know, influence a project that I'm not really creatively controlling

5 minutes and 10 secondsand just trying to influence it indirectly.

5 minutes and 12 secondsBecause, you know, you only have so much control.

5 minutes and 14 secondsBut if you can build that capacity,

5 minutes and 16 secondsthen you can build a company that's capable of making multiple games.

5 minutes and 18 secondsAnd we've done that a few times.

5 minutes and 20 secondsAnd, um...

5 minutes and 22 secondsSome times it's more of a struggle than others.

5 minutes and 24 secondsBut, um, I don't know...

5 minutes and 26 secondsI've come to value my own way of running a project.

5 minutes and 28 secondsLike, I feel more comfortable

5 minutes and 29 secondswith the slightly chaotic way that I run a project.

5 minutes and 31 secondsLike, I feel there is-- there is value to that.

5 minutes and 34 secondsAnd, I think, going forward...

5 minutes and 36 secondswe are not going to immediately jump into re-inserting

5 minutes and 39 secondsany sort of leadership on that team.

5 minutes and 40 secondsWe are going to step back and let--

5 minutes and 41 secondsI think the team is in a good position to be self-organized for a while.

5 minutes and 44 secondsA lot of stuff that it's doing are on track.

5 minutes and 46 secondsUm, and it can go, uh...

5 minutes and 48 secondswith just us stepping up a little bit to help out where needed.

5 minutes and 51 secondsWith me getting more involved.

5 minutes and 52 secondsYou know, like, I always say--

5 minutes and 54 secondsWhen people ask for advice, I always talk about--

5 minutes and 56 secondsadvice about how to start a company,

5 minutes and 57 secondsI talk about getting the most creative people

5 minutes and 59 secondsand the most smartest people, and the best people together,

6 minutes and 1 secondand then just getting out of their way.

6 minutes and 2 secondsI think that's really important. You have to kind of...

6 minutes and 4 secondsget out of their way and let them work together.

6 minutes and 6 secondsTIM: Um, for some of you that might lead to a lot of questions.

6 minutes and 9 secondsAnd I'm here, and everyone's here, and Caryl's here,

6 minutes and 13 secondsif you want to ask those questions.

6 minutes and 15 secondsBut other than that it's just--

6 minutes and 16 secondsIt's obviously a big deal,

6 minutes and 17 secondsand not to be taken lightly,

6 minutes and 19 secondsbut, hopefully, in the end, much better for the project.

6 minutes and 23 secondsSo, that happened.

6 minutes and 25 seconds\[CHUCKLING\]

6 minutes and 28 secondsAnyone want to ask anything about that now?

6 minutes and 30 secondsWhile I'm standing here awkwardly in front of you.

6 minutes and 32 seconds-It's fine. -\[CHUCKLING\]

6 minutes and 34 secondsCARYL: We believe in the team.

6 minutes and 35 secondsAnd can't wait to see what you guys do.

6 minutes and 38 secondsAnd this is hopefully the chance everybody gets to...

6 minutes and 42 secondsyou know, act creatively, and be the professionals

6 minutes and 45 secondsin your discipline that you've wanted to be.

6 minutes and 47 secondsAnd...

6 minutes and 48 secondsIt's going to be really good.

6 minutes and 50 secondsYeah.

6 minutes and 51 secondsOkay.

6 minutes and 52 secondsSo, that's Psychonauts news.

6 minutes and 54 secondsLet's talk about business.

6 minutes and 55 secondsHey, Greg, follow up that!

6 minutes and 57 seconds-I will! -\[LAUGHTER\]

7 minutes and 0 secondsUh, we had a good call...

7 minutes and 2 secondsGREG: Right now we are still being paid by Starbreeze, but, uh, yeah...

7 minutes and 6 secondsWho knows what it's going to look like in two-three months

7 minutes and 9 secondsonce their reconstruction period ends.

7 minutes and 11 seconds-Starbreeze. -TUCKER: Yep.

7 minutes and 13 seconds"Are we a company? I don't know!

7 minutes and 15 secondsTune in in June in bankruptcy court in Sweden to find out!"

7 minutes and 17 secondsTUCKER: Yeah.

7 minutes and 18 secondsNAOKO: "The moment you've all been waiting for!"

7 minutes and 21 seconds\[TUCKER CHUCKLES\]

7 minutes and 23 secondsGREG: But, uh...

7 minutes and 24 secondsYeah, there is just so many potential ways

7 minutes and 26 secondsthat this could go right now,

7 minutes and 28 secondsthat I feel like we have to kind of just

7 minutes and 30 secondsbehind the scenes work on bringing as much money to the project as we can,

7 minutes and 33 secondsand hope that we can figure it out.

7 minutes and 35 seconds\[TIM EXHALES\]

7 minutes and 37 secondsTIM: Yeah, I mean, Greg and I, that's what we are doing,

7 minutes and 39 secondsis trying to secure funds to finish the game.

7 minutes and 43 secondsUh, he is on the phone. Hustling.

7 minutes and 46 seconds\[MUSIC\]

7 minutes and 46 secondsThere is a lot of deals in the air.

7 minutes and 48 secondsSome could happen if we go one way, some could happen if we go another way.

7 minutes and 51 secondsSo, just, a lot of, like, spinning plates in the air right now.

7 minutes and 54 secondsIt's a little stressful.

7 minutes and 56 secondsHe is a little stressed out.

7 minutes and 57 secondsWhen you see his hair all pulled in one direction,

7 minutes and 59 secondsthat's, you know, he's been pulling on it.

8 minutes and 4 secondsGREG: But, um...

8 minutes and 5 secondsIt's a way that I, like, proudly shoulder knowing that...

8 minutes and 9 secondsthere is so much great stuff happening within the walls,

8 minutes and 11 secondsand that we have, you know, a super talented team on it

8 minutes and 14 secondsthat's making awesome stuff.

8 minutes and 17 secondsAnd so, being able to shield them from that a little bit,

8 minutes and 19 secondsso they can-- can make something special,

8 minutes and 22 secondsI think has been a pretty worthy cause.

8 minutes and 24 secondsPAUL: Mm-hmm.

8 minutes and 25 seconds\[MUSIC\]

8 minutes and 33 secondsGREG: The other conversations are more acquisition-based, um...

8 minutes and 38 secondsSo, that's kind of a whole different thing.

8 minutes and 40 secondsAnd that would mean somebody swooping in

8 minutes and 43 secondsand buying the studio for, you know, rights to our entire catalogue of games,

8 minutes and 47 secondsum... and anything we do going forward.

8 minutes and 51 secondsUm, so, they would just be paying our salaries and payroll.

8 minutes and 56 secondsAnd we would get to focus on making games.

8 minutes and 58 secondsThe first person that approached us about this is Microsoft.

9 minutes and 1 secondUm, and they have been doing this recently with a lot of studios.

9 minutes and 5 secondsBut, um, we are talking about investment deals with them.

9 minutes and 8 secondsAnd for them the big reason is Game Pass.

9 minutes and 11 secondsWhich is kind of, like, their version of Netflix.

9 minutes and 14 secondsIt's, like, a streaming platform-- It's not streaming!

9 minutes and 17 secondsIt's a subscription platform where you pay, um, ten dollars.

9 minutes and 21 secondsAlthough, like, right now, I think, it's a dollar a month for a host of games.

9 minutes and 24 secondsLike, a couple hundred games.

9 minutes and 26 secondsAnd they want to get, like, our whole catalogue on there.

9 minutes and 28 secondsAnd our future games too.

9 minutes and 29 secondsSo, talking about a big chunk of investment for that.

9 minutes and 34 secondsPAUL: There's also been talk about acquisition?

9 minutes and 36 secondsTIM: Pfft! Wait, you gotta wait till I drink some coffee before you ask.

9 minutes and 38 seconds-Ask again! -\[PAUL LAUGHS\]

9 minutes and 40 secondsKeeping in mind you are right in front of me.

9 minutes and 41 secondsPAUL: Yeah, so, acquisitions...

9 minutes and 43 seconds\[PAUL LAUGHS\]

9 minutes and 45 secondsNo! Independent until death!

9 minutes and 47 secondsNever acquired!

9 minutes and 49 secondsUnless it was a-- unless it was a lot of money.

9 minutes and 51 secondsPAUL: Is there, like, an ideal party

9 minutes and 53 secondsthat you, in your heart, would like to be paired with.

9 minutes and 55 secondsIdeal party?

9 minutes and 56 secondsUm...

10 minutes and 0 seconds\[SIGHS\]

10 minutes and 1 secondYou know, a company is only the people that are there at that moment.

10 minutes and 3 secondsAnd there are certain initiatives going on at different companies.

10 minutes and 8 secondsSo, that combination of who is there and what they want to do

10 minutes and 11 secondsmakes these fertile areas open up.

10 minutes and 14 secondsAnd they can be great.

10 minutes and 15 secondsAnd so, it's really not, like, the name of any company or brand that I would say.

10 minutes and 18 secondsBut just, like, I know there are some things going on

10 minutes and 20 secondsat a few companies that are like:

10 minutes and 21 seconds"That looks like that would be a fertile place

10 minutes and 24 secondsto do a bunch of creative stuff and not worry about money."

10 minutes and 27 secondsPAUL: So, even if you found someone

10 minutes and 30 secondsthat seemed like it was the good place to be.

10 minutes and 32 secondsThat management could change and suddenly--

10 minutes and 35 seconds-Definitely. -PAUL: Yeah.

10 minutes and 36 secondsPAUL: But then, how different is that from the problems that...

10 minutes and 39 secondsthe studio faces normally.

10 minutes and 40 secondsYeah, we are always at the risk of something--

10 minutes and 43 secondssome wind blowing and we go out of business.

10 minutes and 44 secondsBut we always were very nimble and scrappy,

10 minutes and 46 secondsand figured a way, you know,

10 minutes and 48 secondsto cling on to the branch when that wind is blowing.

10 minutes and 49 secondsAnd we would-- if, you know, we have to sign...

10 minutes and 53 secondsany sort of deal-- we wouldn't take the money

10 minutes and 55 secondsthat would give us no control over our survival.

10 minutes and 58 secondsWe have to be able to, like, protect ourselves

11 minutes and 0 secondsand be able to survive anything.

11 minutes and 3 secondsAnd there is also always the potential that...

11 minutes and 6 secondsthings go bad,

11 minutes and 7 secondsuh, and we have to make hard decisions, and...

11 minutes and 11 secondsWe've been there before too.

11 minutes and 12 secondsAnd you guys have seen layoffs happen here at the studio before.

11 minutes and 14 secondsAnd it's the worst, and we don't want to do that again.

11 minutes and 17 secondsUm, but, I think, we know that no matter what, like...

11 minutes and 21 secondsDouble Fine will exist

11 minutes and 22 secondsand continue to exist, and...

11 minutes and 24 secondswe have a desire to live and we will continue to.

11 minutes and 30 secondsJAMES: So, so...

11 minutes and 31 secondsYou know, in his last year at Double Fine I just didn't interact with him.

11 minutes and 35 secondsI also think he was doomed once Anna left.

11 minutes and 39 secondsI don't think there was any way to come back from that.

11 minutes and 41 seconds-JAMES: Only two? -DOCTOR: Yes.

11 minutes and 42 secondsJAMES: Oh, awesome.

11 minutes and 44 seconds-JAMES: Thanks very much. -DOCTOR: You are welcome.

11 minutes and 49 secondsPAUL: You should just get, like, a tap installed.

11 minutes and 54 secondsJAMES: Uh...

11 minutes and 57 secondsJAMES: I was working late on Thursday at home.

12 minutes and 0 secondsAnd it was about 1 AM,

12 minutes and 1 secondand I had this, like, super crazy pain in the bottom of my stomach.

12 minutes and 5 secondsAnd then it moved upwards a bit and stayed there for about three hours.

12 minutes and 8 secondsAnd it got worse and worse.

12 minutes and 10 seconds\[MUSIC\]

12 minutes and 12 secondsThe fear is that...

12 minutes and 13 secondswhatever is happening to my liver is going to cause liver failure.

12 minutes and 18 secondsYeah, no kidding.

12 minutes and 20 secondsYeah, if I had just had, like, a silent liver disease...

12 minutes and 22 secondsthat would have been much worse.

12 minutes and 24 secondsUm, but hopefully we'll figure it out.

12 minutes and 26 secondsIt's a little scary not knowing--

12 minutes and 28 secondsLike, doctors not knowing what's wrong.

12 minutes and 31 secondsAlso...

12 minutes and 32 secondsEven though everyone keeps saying not to be,

12 minutes and 34 secondslike, it's a bummer to not be able to help out with the Loboto level.

12 minutes and 38 secondsGEOFF: And we are going to remove Milla from the Levitation tutorial completely,

12 minutes and 43 secondsuh, but not her voice.

12 minutes and 45 secondsSo she'll be talking in your head the entire time there.

12 minutes and 47 secondsWe just don't have the overhead to do the animation.

12 minutes and 49 secondsThere are a lot of cutscenes.

12 minutes and 51 secondsLISETTE: Our biggest risk is animation.

12 minutes and 53 secondsGEOFF: Yeah, our biggest risk is animation--

12 minutes and 54 secondsAnd VFX.

12 minutes and 56 secondsGEOFF: I'll just...

12 minutes and 58 secondsI'll just make Tazio work harder.

13 minutes and 0 seconds-\[LAUGHTER\] -I'll just stand...

13 minutes and 2 secondsI'll just do my favorite thing

13 minutes and 3 secondswhich is stand over Tazio's shoulder and then tell him what he should be doing.

13 minutes and 7 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

13 minutes and 11 secondsTAZIO: If we execute on Loboto,

13 minutes and 13 secondsand make Loboto as good as we all want it to be,

13 minutes and 16 secondsI think that bodes well for the rest of the project.

13 minutes and 19 secondsLike, I think that that will set expectations

13 minutes and 22 secondsthat need to be set, honestly, about, like, what game we are making.

13 minutes and 26 seconds\[MUSIC\]

13 minutes and 27 secondsCAMDEN: So, the only way I see it really affecting us is just, like,

13 minutes and 30 secondsthere is-- there is a whole new direction now.

13 minutes and 33 secondsLike, the way people are talking to each other already,

13 minutes and 37 secondsand the way that the teams are kind of working already is, like, changing.

13 minutes and 41 secondsAnd we will certainly be affected by that for sure.

13 minutes and 46 secondsUm, but, I think, in a good way.

13 minutes and 47 secondsI think it'll be all right.

13 minutes and 49 secondsJAMES: It's nice that they can now do what they want to do.

13 minutes and 51 secondsMake the game they think is going to be best.

13 minutes and 53 seconds\[MUSIC\]

14 minutes and 2 secondsTIM: Emily storyboards.

14 minutes and 3 secondsDo you have all her transition storyboards anywhere?

14 minutes and 6 secondsRAY: No, did she do storyboards?

14 minutes and 8 secondsOh my god!

14 minutes and 9 secondsYou guys, we need to talk about communication on this team.

14 minutes and 13 secondsThere is a folder on Cooper under Art\\Storyboards for Loboto

14 minutes and 16 secondsthat says 'All Transitions'.

14 minutes and 18 secondsAnd it's all these wacky transitions in Loboto.

14 minutes and 20 secondsRAY: Oh, really? Oh, man!

14 minutes and 21 secondsOkay, I didn't know about those.

14 minutes and 23 secondsCLAM: Yeah.

14 minutes and 24 seconds\[TIM GRUNTS\]

14 minutes and 25 secondsCLAM: Come on!

14 minutes and 26 secondsAnd, hopefully, Tim will get more engaged as well.

14 minutes and 31 secondsI'm not confident that will happen.

14 minutes and 34 secondsTim's vision hasn't been the driving factor of this game...

14 minutes and 37 seconds-...for a long time. -Right, right.

14 minutes and 39 secondsAnd, I mean, Tim kind of handed the game to Zak.

14 minutes and 43 secondsI mean, I was kind of hoping to sit with him

14 minutes and 44 secondsand talk over some of this stuff.

14 minutes and 46 secondsJust to get his-- not just the writing, but just kind of, like...

14 minutes and 50 seconds"What do you think is going to happen, man?

14 minutes and 51 secondsWhat do you--

14 minutes and 52 secondsYou know probably better than anyone at this point.

14 minutes and 54 secondsLike, where do you see this going?"

14 minutes and 57 secondsBecause...

14 minutes and 59 secondsPart of me is like: "I'm just kind of sitting here

15 minutes and 2 secondsjust because I'm excited to see what happens!"

15 minutes and 4 secondsJAMES: But I think the game would benefit a ton from him...

15 minutes and 7 secondsbeing a little more in the trenches when he is at work.

15 minutes and 10 secondsAnd I know that's also almost impossible,

15 minutes and 12 secondsbecause he has so much to write.

15 minutes and 14 secondsIt's a possibility.

15 minutes and 16 secondsPAUL: Tazio, how is it going?

15 minutes and 17 secondsI'm doing okay.

15 minutes and 18 secondsIt's-- it's been a weird couple of weeks.

15 minutes and 21 secondsYou know, Zak leaving.

15 minutes and 23 secondsWe had-- like, right after that we just had an insanely productive week.

15 minutes and 27 secondsGEOFF: Yeah, there is a lot of stuff!

15 minutes and 28 secondsLike, the difference between last Friday and this Friday is quite significant.

15 minutes and 34 secondsTAZIO: Yeah, I feel--

15 minutes and 35 secondsI feel different about the project certainly.

15 minutes and 38 secondsJEREMY: Ooo, look at this!

15 minutes and 39 seconds-EMILY: This looks good! -TAZIO: Looking so much better!

15 minutes and 41 secondsEMILY: So much better!

15 minutes and 42 seconds-JEREMY: Look at this room! -GIGI: So good!

15 minutes and 44 secondsTAZIO: Um, there is also just a lot of things that I didn't realize.

15 minutes and 47 secondsLike secondary effects of, like, the production before Zak left.

15 minutes and 51 secondsWhere it's just, like, we were--

15 minutes and 53 secondsI felt disconnected to a lot of the decision making.

15 minutes and 56 secondsSo, if, like, I ran into a problem...

15 minutes and 59 secondsor I had a solution,

16 minutes and 0 secondsI'd, like...

16 minutes and 1 secondyou know,

16 minutes and 2 seconds\[SIGHS\]

16 minutes and 4 secondsI wouldn't feel...

16 minutes and 6 secondslike, empowered to--

16 minutes and 8 secondsto have a conversation about how to fix it.

16 minutes and 11 secondsBecause it would never be the time or whatever.

16 minutes and 13 secondsAnd, like, I feel like--

16 minutes and 14 secondsAlso just because we are at the stage of production where we at,

16 minutes and 17 secondswhere we, like-- we just have to solve problems now.

16 minutes and 20 secondsThere is a lot of--

16 minutes and 21 secondsI think a lot of our problems previously have been about indecision.

16 minutes and 25 secondsAnd about, like...

16 minutes and 27 secondsIt's, like, Zak would keep his cards really close and be like:

16 minutes and 29 seconds"Aaa, I'm looking at these things!"

16 minutes and 31 secondsAnd now it's just like:

16 minutes and 31 seconds"Well, we need to solve these problems now."

16 minutes and 33 secondsAnd that means, I think, we are taking these problems much more seriously.

16 minutes and 36 secondsAnd the state of the game much more seriously.

16 minutes and 38 secondsWhich is necessary.

16 minutes and 40 secondsAnd if there is, like--

16 minutes and 41 secondsIf we have an idea for how to make it better,

16 minutes and 42 secondswe can, like, talk to all the involved parties

16 minutes and 46 secondsand-- and get that done.

16 minutes and 48 secondsAnd I don't think--

16 minutes and 49 secondsI certainly didn't feel that way previously.

16 minutes and 52 secondsThe previous regime had a lot of power concentrated in one place.

16 minutes and 57 secondsUm, so, I think a lot of people feel like they have a lot more authority,

17 minutes and 1 secondbecause all of that sort of, like, disseminated down to the team.

17 minutes and 4 secondsI certainly feel like I have more authority over powers,

17 minutes and 7 secondsbeing able to make those decisions.

17 minutes and 8 secondsBecause I was going to say: "Question! What happens to Mental Energy?"

17 minutes and 12 secondsAMY: Right now we are not using Mental Energy.

17 minutes and 13 secondsOkay, that answers my question.

17 minutes and 16 secondsThat's what we are trying right now.

17 minutes and 17 secondsANDY: You are trying it out?

17 minutes and 18 secondsAnd that's the intent for the playtest on Friday to kind of see that?

17 minutes and 20 secondsAMY: Same thing, there is no ammo either.

17 minutes and 23 secondsPAUL: And Mental Energy is still turned off, right?

17 minutes and 25 secondsOh, not only that!

17 minutes and 27 seconds\[PAUL CHUCKLES\]

17 minutes and 28 secondsI have it removed in code!

17 minutes and 30 secondsYeah, I'm going to submit that soon!

17 minutes and 32 secondsSo good!

17 minutes and 33 secondsThat was, like, the-- That was day one.

17 minutes and 35 secondsUm...

17 minutes and 37 secondsJust sitting in this-- it was, like-- there were two things, like:

17 minutes and 39 seconds-"We shouldn't do Mental Energy." -"Cool, turn it off."

17 minutes and 41 seconds-"Also, PSI Blast shouldn't have ammo." -"Awesome! Took it out."

17 minutes and 43 seconds\[LAUGHS\]

17 minutes and 44 secondsLike, it was-- it was just...

17 minutes and 45 seconds\[SNAPS FINGERS\]

17 minutes and 46 secondsQuick things that we had all just been wanting for so long

17 minutes and 49 secondsthat we could just do immediately.

17 minutes and 51 seconds-SAMMY: Yeah? -AMY: Yeah.

17 minutes and 53 seconds-SAMMY: Okay. -AMY: Let's try it.

17 minutes and 54 secondsSAMMY: Okay.

17 minutes and 55 secondsAMY: Uh, so, I'm going to do that more.

17 minutes and 57 secondsAnd... maybe I can just take my stress levels down to where, um...

18 minutes and 3 secondsI can be...

18 minutes and 5 secondshappier here.

18 minutes and 8 secondsLISETTE: I'm already seeing this emergence of:

18 minutes and 11 seconds"Well, Zak's not here, we don't do that anymore, do we?"

18 minutes and 13 seconds-Mm-hmm. -"No, it's not that easy."

18 minutes and 16 secondsAnd then, they get the other side of:

18 minutes and 18 seconds"Well, Zak's not here. "I can do that thing I wanted to do.

18 minutes and 20 secondsAnd it's like: "Hold on, it's not that easy."

18 minutes and 22 secondsPAUL: People want to put stuff into the game, they want--

18 minutes and 25 secondsYes, and we have to be careful about that.

18 minutes and 27 secondsAnd the whole leads meeting was like:

18 minutes and 31 seconds"We have to be, like, very communicative with this team.

18 minutes and 34 secondsAnd make sure that they are very clear.

18 minutes and 36 secondsLike, what passes and what doesn't.

18 minutes and 38 secondsAnd if you have something, who to bring it to."

18 minutes and 43 secondsIt's just a new ball game.

18 minutes and 44 secondsLike, this game in general is just...

18 minutes and 47 secondsIt's quite an adventure.

18 minutes and 49 secondsYeah, it just feels like we have a really...

18 minutes and 53 seconds...brand new road right now.

18 minutes and 54 secondsAnd we have to be...

18 minutes and 57 secondscareful and thoughtful about where we go.

19 minutes and 1 secondPAUL: Mm-hmm.

19 minutes and 2 secondsGEOFF: I mean, if we can actually be successful with Loboto,

19 minutes and 4 secondsit'd probably be behoove us just to redesign all of the--

19 minutes and 7 secondsthe team to be more level focused rather than discipline focused.

19 minutes and 11 secondsANDY: Mm-hmm, I agree.

19 minutes and 13 secondsNAOKO: Do you want Ryan on there?

19 minutes and 16 secondsANDY: Yeah, I-- I do want Ryan on there.

19 minutes and 19 secondsThe question is, like...

19 minutes and 20 secondswith his leave being what it is right now...

19 minutes and 24 secondsI want to just specifically ask him, like:

19 minutes and 26 seconds"Where do you want to fit into this?"

19 minutes and 29 secondsCAMDEN: Have you talked to him yet?

19 minutes and 30 secondsYeah, we've been-- yeah.

19 minutes and 31 secondsHe is-- he is aware of the situation.

19 minutes and 33 secondsHow is he doing?

19 minutes and 34 secondsNAOKO: He doesn't know...

19 minutes and 36 secondswas his actual answer.

19 minutes and 39 secondsCAMDEN: I'm concerned, I want to make sure that Ryan is okay.

19 minutes and 42 secondsUh...

19 minutes and 44 secondsI think Ryan...

19 minutes and 47 seconds...is a good designer.

19 minutes and 49 secondsAnd I think he has some really good ideas,

19 minutes and 51 secondsbut I also know this is, like, super personal.

19 minutes and 53 secondsHe is-- he is good friends with Zak.

19 minutes and 55 secondsWhere have you come to us from?

19 minutes and 57 secondsPreviously I worked at Crystal Dynamics for a while,

19 minutes and 59 secondsI worked at 2K for many years, so.

20 minutes and 1 secondThat's where-- that's where he was.

20 minutes and 3 secondsRYAN: Uh, yeah, that's how I know Zak.

20 minutes and 4 secondsIn the time we have remaining...

20 minutes and 7 secondsand I really want to say this,

20 minutes and 8 secondsI really suggest...

20 minutes and 11 secondseither as leads to our disciplines,

20 minutes and 14 secondsor as a leads team in general to the entire team,

20 minutes and 18 secondswe tell them we trust them.

20 minutes and 20 secondsYeah.

20 minutes and 21 secondsBecause there is a lot of duress on the team right now.

20 minutes and 24 secondsAnd they've been through a lot.

20 minutes and 26 secondsAnd I think it would be a very good message

20 minutes and 28 secondsto just get in front of them and say:

20 minutes and 30 seconds"We... totally back you guys up. We know you can do it."

20 minutes and 33 secondsAs far as leadership.

20 minutes and 35 secondsFor me... the whole thing I would say is:

20 minutes and 38 seconds"You have to trust your team!"

20 minutes and 40 secondsLike, you have to.

20 minutes and 43 secondsIt's-- that's how you are a leader.

20 minutes and 46 secondsEven if you don't think they can do it.

20 minutes and 48 secondsYou put across that you trust them.

20 minutes and 53 secondsOtherwise, what have they got?

20 minutes and 56 secondsIf you don't have that,

20 minutes and 57 secondsthen, like, all you have left is just, like, regret and doubt.

21 minutes and 1 secondAnd it just snowballs.

21 minutes and 3 secondsI've done that! I've certainly done that.

21 minutes and 6 secondsBut on a project this big, with this many people,

21 minutes and 8 secondsyou cannot afford to do that.

21 minutes and 11 secondsYou have to believe right till the end.

21 minutes and 13 secondsI-- I am impressed with Tim because he does do that.

21 minutes and 16 secondsAnnoyingly so!

21 minutes and 18 secondsLike, a month before ship, he is like:

21 minutes and 20 seconds"Ah, no, we can do this!"

21 minutes and 22 secondsI'm always amazed by his capacity for that.

21 minutes and 24 secondsAnd it inspires me!

21 minutes and 26 secondsAgainst my will!

21 minutes and 28 secondsBecause I don't want to do it.

21 minutes and 30 secondsBut I'm like: "Yeah, maybe he is right."

21 minutes and 32 seconds\[LAUGHS\]

21 minutes and 34 secondsAnd that gets me in trouble.

21 minutes and 35 secondsBut, like, it's a good leadership quality.

21 minutes and 38 secondsANDY: Well, I mean, right now, we don't have a Project Lead.

21 minutes and 42 secondsAnd, you know, from the conversation I had with Tim this morning,

21 minutes and 45 secondswe ain't gonna be getting one any time soon either.

21 minutes and 47 secondsSo...

21 minutes and 49 secondsRUSTY: So, when he said he was going to be more involved, did he...

21 minutes and 52 seconds...think he was going to be that involved?

21 minutes and 54 secondsANDY: I don't know!

21 minutes and 54 secondsI don't know, I know he said he wants--

21 minutes and 57 secondsHe has admitted that he needs to be more involved.

22 minutes and 0 secondsUm, but...

22 minutes and 2 secondsno one has sat down and had the question of:

22 minutes and 3 seconds"Who is going to be the Lead?"

22 minutes and 4 secondsThat hasn't even come up yet.

22 minutes and 6 secondsNo one has even...

22 minutes and 7 secondslike, brought that up.

22 minutes and 9 secondsBut it is on us then to decide what we do.

22 minutes and 12 secondsPeople....

22 minutes and 14 seconds...are very polite to each other here.

22 minutes and 16 secondsAnd so, I don't think we are having

22 minutes and 18 secondsthe uncomfortable conversations we need to have amongst leads.

22 minutes and 21 secondsYou know, it's just like: "You do need a Project Lead.

22 minutes and 23 secondsYou do need one person."

22 minutes and 25 secondsAnd that person should be Tim.

22 minutes and 27 secondsANDY: No, you are right. No, you are right.

22 minutes and 28 secondsI think, you know, maybe the most important thing

22 minutes and 31 secondsthat this project needs, after everything we've been through,

22 minutes and 33 secondsis for Tim to go: "All right, everybody! I am the Lead.

22 minutes and 36 secondsI'm the Project Lead."

22 minutes and 37 secondsAnd I think there is a lot of people that would go: "Thank goodness!"

22 minutes and 40 secondsSo, um...

22 minutes and 42 secondsI obviously want to get more involved on the team.

22 minutes and 44 secondsI still have-- I still have this thing

22 minutes and 45 secondswhere I'm going to be locked in my room a lot writing.

22 minutes and 47 secondsBecause a lot of people need a lot of writing done.

22 minutes and 49 secondsAnd I don't want to hold up-- hold up that stuff.

22 minutes and 51 secondsBut I feel like--

22 minutes and 52 secondstalking to people, and it's going to be annoying at first,

22 minutes and 53 secondsbecause I have to do a lot of catch-up on some of the deep design stuff,

22 minutes and 56 secondsthat I don't know what's going on.

22 minutes and 57 secondsI'm going to have to sit and meet with people,

22 minutes and 58 secondsand ask what's going on and find out where things are at.

23 minutes and 1 secondBut I feel like there is a lot of things you can--

23 minutes and 3 secondsjust by asking a few questions

23 minutes and 4 secondsI found some things that are kind of lingering, open, design issues

23 minutes and 7 secondsthat I feel like it's okay now to, like, close a lot of these things up

23 minutes and 11 secondsand move things forward, and, like, push things--

23 minutes and 13 secondsuh, push things forward.

23 minutes and 14 secondsYou see that happening a lot in Loboto already.

23 minutes and 16 secondsA lot of things are getting decided once and for all, and, um...

23 minutes and 18 secondsBut that's what I want to continue doing,

23 minutes and 20 secondsit's meeting with people and seeing where things are--

23 minutes and 21 secondsfinding all these open issues

23 minutes and 22 secondsand kind of closing that by moving things forward creatively.

23 minutes and 26 secondsWhen I'm not locked in my room.

23 minutes and 27 secondsSo you are going to see a lot more of me.

23 minutes and 28 secondsAnd I'd be talking to you, people.

23 minutes and 30 secondsUh, and I don't mean you, people.

23 minutes and 32 seconds\[TIM CHUCKLES\]

23 minutes and 33 secondsI looked at Ben.

23 minutes and 34 secondsYou, people.

23 minutes and 35 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

23 minutes and 40 secondsTIM: I keep forgetting to stare over everyone's head when I say things.

23 minutes and 43 secondsSo, you people, um...

23 minutes and 45 secondsBut that's what I'm going to be doing.

23 minutes and 46 secondsSo...

23 minutes and 48 secondsI'm getting back involved more in the project.

23 minutes and 50 secondsAnd Psychonauts is very near and dear to my heart.

23 minutes and 52 secondsYou know, I've been locked up in here writing for a long time.

23 minutes and 54 secondsUm...

23 minutes and 55 secondsAnd that can-- It's hard, because it makes you kind of--

23 minutes and 58 secondsin some ways, you have to be really in touch with the game,

23 minutes and 59 secondsbecause you are creating the narrative parts of it.

24 minutes and 1 secondBut then, you get kind of out of touch with the team

24 minutes and 3 secondsbecause you are locked in your closet all the time.

24 minutes and 5 secondsUm...

24 minutes and 6 secondsBut now I've been going back into meetings,

24 minutes and 8 secondsand checking out the team-- getting really involved in...

24 minutes and 11 secondsuh...

24 minutes and 12 secondsThe Cube of Caligosto.

24 minutes and 14 secondsWhich is the Dr. Loboto intro to the game and that level.

24 minutes and 17 secondsAnd, um...

24 minutes and 18 secondsI don't know if you heard about this, but there is a trade show in LA called E3.

24 minutes and 21 secondsNo one knows what it stands for,

24 minutes and 23 secondsbut it's coming up!

24 minutes and 24 secondsAnd we are going to show Psychonauts there for the first time kind of ever.

24 minutes and 28 secondsPAUL: Mm-hmm.

24 minutes and 29 secondsAs I drink this coffee now.

24 minutes and 31 seconds\[SLURPS\]

24 minutes and 32 seconds\[GULPS\]

24 minutes and 33 secondsThat wasn't weird.

24 minutes and 34 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

24 minutes and 35 secondsPAUL: There are reporters... poking around.

24 minutes and 38 secondsYeah, they are calling--

24 minutes and 39 secondsI think they wanted to find out a Riot level of misconduct type of thing,

24 minutes and 43 secondsbut... that's not what happened here.

24 minutes and 46 secondsPAUL: Mm-hmm.

24 minutes and 47 secondsCould write a book about it years from now, but...

24 minutes and 51 secondsWho knows.

24 minutes and 52 secondsI mean that's one of the reasons I want to...

24 minutes and 55 secondsshow really well at E3.

24 minutes and 56 secondsIt's because, um...

24 minutes and 58 secondsWhen management or anyone big and important on the team leaves...

25 minutes and 1 secondIt's like: "What's wrong?

25 minutes and 2 secondsIs that a troubled-- Is that a troubled production?"

25 minutes and 4 secondsAnd all-- all productions are troubled.

25 minutes and 6 secondsBut, um...

25 minutes and 7 secondsThat brings the question of, like: "Is something wrong?"

25 minutes and 9 secondsAnd so I would like to show that we are making a good game.

25 minutes and 12 secondsAnd everyone will know that.

25 minutes and 13 seconds\[MUSIC\]

25 minutes and 15 secondsTIM: How do you feel? Good?

25 minutes and 16 secondsUh, welcome back, James!

25 minutes and 17 seconds-TIM: Hey! -\[CLAPPING\]

25 minutes and 19 secondsAnd anyone else who just came back from vacation

25 minutes and 22 secondsor... near-death experiences.

25 minutes and 24 secondsYeah.

25 minutes and 25 secondsCLAM: They are kind of, like, integrated, so...

25 minutes and 29 secondsLike, they are very specific.

25 minutes and 31 secondsTIM: I just posted about this in Slack,

25 minutes and 33 secondsyou guys were talking about this, and Asif posted about it,

25 minutes and 35 secondsand I was wondering...

25 minutes and 36 secondsWhy is it-- why is it in several swoops and jerks?

25 minutes and 39 secondsWhy isn't it just, like, one, long extended thing?

25 minutes and 42 secondsAs you get closer, it gets farther away.

25 minutes and 43 secondsJAMES: So, before you got here, we actually said-- I thought that--

25 minutes and 45 secondsWe thought that was your comment.

25 minutes and 46 seconds-ASIF: Yeah. -TIM: It was my comment.

25 minutes and 47 secondsTIM: It just feels really swimmy.

25 minutes and 48 secondsAnd I don't really know why it does it like that.

25 minutes and 50 secondsIt seems like it would just be easier to push it as one linear progression out.

25 minutes and 54 secondsJAMES: Yeah, I get it, Tim.

25 minutes and 55 secondsOtherwise I have to write that dialogue again.

25 minutes and 56 seconds-I don't want to do it. -JAMES: Tim, I get it, I get it, okay?

25 minutes and 58 seconds-If you got it, it would be done already. -JAMES: I can't work any faster.

25 minutes and 59 secondsIf you got it, it would look good!

26 minutes and 1 secondOof!

26 minutes and 2 seconds-Guys, please don't fight. -Wow, that really hurts.

26 minutes and 3 seconds\[TIM LAUGHS\]

26 minutes and 4 secondsYeah.

26 minutes and 6 secondsSave that for the trailer for the documentary.

26 minutes and 8 secondsWe have an example here where there is, you know--

26 minutes and 10 secondsyou can see Dr. Loboto at the end of this hallway,

26 minutes and 12 secondsand you are supposed to be chasing after him.

26 minutes and 13 secondsSo, you are going to run after him.

26 minutes and 15 secondsBut then the hallway is going to start stretching out in front of you.

26 minutes and 17 secondsUm...

26 minutes and 18 secondsAnd we can do that pretty simply now,

26 minutes and 20 secondsby just placing a portal there and then moving the portal along

26 minutes and 22 secondsas you get close to it.

26 minutes and 24 secondsSo, like, right now, looking at this,

26 minutes and 26 secondsit's pretty clear that some--

26 minutes and 27 secondslike, even if the player doesn't know exactly what's going on,

26 minutes and 29 secondslike, something funky is going along-- along this border here.

26 minutes and 31 seconds-PAUL: It's like mask lines. -AARON: Yeah, it's, like, you know...

26 minutes and 34 secondsAARON: I want...

26 minutes and 35 secondsI want to be able to create these experiences

26 minutes and 36 secondswhere people have no idea how we are pulling them off.

26 minutes and 38 secondsTIM: I think that's it.

26 minutes and 39 secondsIf you guys don't have any questions, we have--

26 minutes and 40 secondsAndy has some more things-- about more detailed ownership things.

26 minutes and 43 secondsThat looks like a little speech in your phone.

26 minutes and 45 seconds-ANDY: No, I have notes. -TIM: Oh, okay.

26 minutes and 46 secondsJust to make sure I hit all my points.

26 minutes and 48 secondsUm, yes! Thank you, Tim.

26 minutes and 49 secondsSo, we've been talking about, like, different people owning different things.

26 minutes and 53 secondsWhat are these features we are working on?

26 minutes and 54 secondsWho is kind of the contact person on that?

26 minutes and 56 secondsAnd driving that forward.

26 minutes and 57 secondsSo! We all just kind of, like, got that on paper.

27 minutes and 0 secondsList of main game features and who is working on them.

27 minutes and 3 secondsI wanted to just run down this with everybody.

27 minutes and 5 secondsIt's just-- stuff that everyone is already doing.

27 minutes and 8 secondsBut it's important to put this out on paper,

27 minutes and 10 secondsbring it up to everybody here in front of the group and go:

27 minutes and 12 seconds"This is-- This is what we are doing."

27 minutes and 13 secondsPowers, gadgets. Amy is the owner of that.

27 minutes and 16 secondsPlayer is Devin. Devin owns all the player stuff.

27 minutes and 19 secondsAI and combat is Anna.

27 minutes and 21 secondsAnything that's AI and combat related, Anna is the point person on this.

27 minutes and 24 secondsAaron does cameras and portals.

27 minutes and 26 secondsThat's it, that's it.

27 minutes and 28 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

27 minutes and 29 secondsKind of accurate.

27 minutes and 30 secondsANDY: Levi is simply lighting.

27 minutes and 32 seconds-ANDY: Good luck! -\[LAUGHTER\]

27 minutes and 33 secondsANDY: Economy is owned by Lauren.

27 minutes and 35 secondsGame systems. This is a big one.

27 minutes and 37 secondsWhich, of course, goes to Kee.

27 minutes and 38 secondsUm...

27 minutes and 40 secondsHe put some examples up here.

27 minutes and 41 secondsMiscellaneous systems like saving, loading, quests,

27 minutes and 43 secondsmultispline mesh actors, whatever that means.

27 minutes and 46 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

27 minutes and 47 secondsFast travel.

27 minutes and 49 secondsI'm pretty certain-- I don't know.

27 minutes and 51 secondsI'm sure it's super important!

27 minutes and 53 secondsTIM: You really don't know?

27 minutes and 55 secondsANDY: Tim, would you like to talk about multispline mesh actors?

27 minutes and 57 secondsYeah! Some mesh actors have one spline.

27 minutes and 59 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

28 minutes and 1 secondNot on Psychonauts 2!

28 minutes and 3 secondsTIM: No, I mean, I'm not the project leader,

28 minutes and 5 secondsuh, but I am... a lot more creatively involved.

28 minutes and 7 secondsThat's nice. It's nice to work with the team again.

28 minutes and 9 secondsAnd to see them--

28 minutes and 10 secondsUh, they feel-- they seem happier.

28 minutes and 13 secondsAnd it's nice to see them feel empowered,

28 minutes and 15 secondsand, you know, doing stuff,

28 minutes and 17 secondsorganizing themselves,

28 minutes and 18 secondsgetting stuff done and talking to each other.

28 minutes and 19 secondsYou can see them all just meeting in the hallways

28 minutes and 22 secondsand figuring out what to do,

28 minutes and 23 secondsand just moving forward with their own creative decisions.

28 minutes and 25 secondsSo, the number and complexity of portals in the level has gone down.

28 minutes and 27 secondsWhich is good.

28 minutes and 28 secondsBut for the couple that are still remaining,

28 minutes and 29 secondsI should go over with you,

28 minutes and 30 secondslike, the specifics of, like, all the little things we should do

28 minutes and 32 secondsto get those, like, in polished state basically.

28 minutes and 33 secondsHow do we make them not look, like, mostly good,

28 minutes and 35 secondsbut, like, perfect.

28 minutes and 36 secondsNAOKO: Did you guys talk about the hallway and how you want to finish this up?

28 minutes and 39 secondsBecause there-- it seems like...

28 minutes and 41 seconds-Bugs and stuff, and... -Mm-hmm.

28 minutes and 43 secondsIt's piling up in here.

28 minutes and 45 secondsSo, I feel like a whole bunch of people need to just knock this out tomorrow.

28 minutes and 47 secondsGEOFF: The hallway, we are moving onto it next,

28 minutes and 50 secondsas soon as Tazio finishes the exit cutscene stuff.

28 minutes and 52 secondsNAOKO: All right, cool. Let's keep going then.

28 minutes and 54 seconds\[MUSIC\]

28 minutes and 55 secondsAnd there is, like-- there is a bunch of just big sequences

28 minutes and 58 secondsthat need a fair amount of FX support.

29 minutes and 1 secondBut then there is also this moment where you are running down this hallway...

29 minutes and 5 secondsand it stretches, and it goes all crazy.

29 minutes and 8 secondsAnd making Raz feel sort of, like, small and insignificant.

29 minutes and 12 secondsUh, like, having-- messing with the camera or the FoV or something

29 minutes and 14 secondsto make it seem a little freakier or weirder would add to it.

29 minutes and 18 secondsI think a dolly zoom.

29 minutes and 19 secondsTAZIO: And we had a bunch of ideas for how to sort of handle this.

29 minutes and 22 secondsAnd it's gone through a bunch of different hands.

29 minutes and 25 secondsBut, like...

29 minutes and 26 secondsThere is, like, a really good camera trick for doing that.

29 minutes and 28 secondsYou know, which is, like, something that was just stolen from film.

29 minutes and 32 secondsYou truck in, and then you--

29 minutes and 34 secondsyou zoom, so that the world just warps.

29 minutes and 36 secondsSince we are doing that on top of, like, moving the portal,

29 minutes and 39 secondsthat's, like, adding this extra layer.

29 minutes and 41 secondsNot only are we distorting the space in the camera

29 minutes and 42 secondswe are also doing it in real life.

29 minutes and 44 seconds\[MUSIC\]

29 minutes and 49 secondsCut to the outside of the mouth. And that's where you--

29 minutes and 52 secondsCut to the outside of the mouth.

29 minutes and 54 secondsChk.

29 minutes and 55 secondsYou know what I mean?

29 minutes and 57 secondsYou know what I'm saying?

29 minutes and 58 seconds-Did you just... -Right, right?

29 minutes and 59 seconds-I got it. -Chk!

30 minutes and 0 secondsI'm picking up what you are laying down.

30 minutes and 3 secondsOkay, cut to the outside of the mouth.

30 minutes and 5 seconds-Chk! -\[CHUCKLING\]

30 minutes and 8 secondsWhat was confusing Clam?

30 minutes and 10 secondsMe? I didn't say anything.

30 minutes and 12 seconds-Clam? -RAY: Yeah.

30 minutes and 14 secondsWe just assume you are confused.

30 minutes and 16 secondsAre you confused, Clam?

30 minutes and 17 secondsI am confused...

30 minutes and 18 secondsTIM: If Clam gets this, anyone will get it.

30 minutes and 20 seconds-I am confused at your question. -\[LAUGHTER\]

30 minutes and 22 secondsTIM: And then, every once in a while they'll hit a point where they...

30 minutes and 25 secondshave a disagreement, and, uh...

30 minutes and 27 secondsI'm happy to help, and...

30 minutes and 28 secondsstep in and, like, help them decide these things.

30 minutes and 31 secondsBecause some things just have to be-- you have to make a call and move on.

30 minutes and 34 secondsAnd, like, just using him as a frame of reference

30 minutes and 36 secondsof, like, you know: "This is what we want."

30 minutes and 38 secondsRight? Like, the way we set it up in the storyboard,

30 minutes and 40 secondsthere is, like, an enclosed specific space that is, like, where she is.

30 minutes and 44 secondsAnd, like, so, essentially, I don't have to extend this shot.

30 minutes and 48 secondsTIM: And getting more involved means just playing the game

30 minutes and 51 secondsand writing up annoying pages of notes for the team.

30 minutes and 54 secondsBut they seem to want that for some reason.

30 minutes and 56 secondsUsually I'm, like, delivering these notes and everyone is like:

30 minutes and 58 seconds"What the hell is this?! What are these last minute changes?"

31 minutes and 1 secondAnd now they seem to be really like: "Oh my god! Thank you! This is great!"

31 minutes and 4 secondsSo, I don't know...

31 minutes and 5 secondsI don't know what's going on there.

31 minutes and 7 secondsTIM: And are those the animations

31 minutes and 8 secondsthat are going to be used for that scene right there?

31 minutes and 11 seconds-Which one? -TUCKER: Those walks?

31 minutes and 12 seconds-Yeah. -TUCKER: Yeah.

31 minutes and 13 secondsTIM: The whole thing was supposed to be they are walking, like:

31 minutes and 15 seconds"Ta-tada-tada."

31 minutes and 16 secondsAnd trying to act casual, but now they are all just bolting off.

31 minutes and 18 seconds-LAUREN: Oh, okay. -TIM: Yeah.

31 minutes and 20 secondsJAMES: We increased Raz's movement speed to be faster than a walk.

31 minutes and 23 secondsAnd we can't have--

31 minutes and 24 secondsTIM: Why did we do that?

31 minutes and 26 secondsJAMES: Because people hated the way it felt.

31 minutes and 27 secondsTIM: I don't care!

31 minutes and 28 seconds\[TIM LAUGHS\]

31 minutes and 29 secondsOkay, that's not the way it's supposed to be.

31 minutes and 31 secondsOkay, and we don't have to talk about it the whole meeting.

31 minutes and 32 secondsBut I would like to go over that with somebody in more detail and...

31 minutes and 35 secondsgo over the way that was supposed to be, so we can get that right.

31 minutes and 37 secondsLAUREN: Okay.

31 minutes and 38 secondsTUCKER: So then, Lauren, you and--

31 minutes and 39 secondsyou and Tim can sync up after this to find out the...

31 minutes and 42 secondsBut everyone can complain about how they don't like the slow walk,

31 minutes and 44 secondsI just don't care.

31 minutes and 45 secondsIt's, like, it's only this hallway and the next hallway,

31 minutes and 47 secondsand then it's over.

31 minutes and 48 secondsSo just shut up, everybody.

31 minutes and 50 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

31 minutes and 51 secondsIt's a very short sequence and people can cry all they want, but...

31 minutes and 54 secondsTUCKER: Okay, we'll get you two talking.

31 minutes and 56 secondsAnd then, we can talk to Devin about adjusting it to whatever--

31 minutes and 59 secondswhatever you guys feel is right.

32 minutes and 1 secondSo, we don't have to take every single piece of feedback...

32 minutes and 3 secondsthat we get is what I'm saying.

32 minutes and 5 secondsOkay. So, Sasha almost playing correctly.

32 minutes and 9 secondsPAUL: But it does seem like people want you to be...

32 minutes and 12 secondstelling them what to do,

32 minutes and 14 secondsmore than not.

32 minutes and 19 secondsI don't know what to say about that.

32 minutes and 20 secondsLike, on different projects-- People, um...

32 minutes and 22 secondsPeople's relationship with authority is-- is kind of funny.

32 minutes and 24 secondsAnd there are some people who they accept having the authority over them

32 minutes and 28 secondsfor whatever reason.

32 minutes and 29 secondsAnd they want to hear stuff from that person.

32 minutes and 32 secondsAnd then there is someone who they don't think should have

32 minutes and 33 secondsauthority over them.

32 minutes and 34 secondsAnd they are like: "That person should shut up."

32 minutes and 36 secondsAnd figuring out...

32 minutes and 38 secondsYou know, and so they'll take something

32 minutes and 39 secondsfrom the person whose authority they accept.

32 minutes and 41 secondsAnd they won't take it from the other person.

32 minutes and 42 secondsAnd it might be the exact same idea.

32 minutes and 44 secondsUm...

32 minutes and 45 secondsAnd so, figuring out

32 minutes and 46 secondswhy people give their authority to some people and not others--

32 minutes and 48 secondsMaybe it's just trust,

32 minutes and 49 secondsor they think they know what person is about.

32 minutes and 51 secondsAnd they just trust them.

32 minutes and 53 secondsOr... they've just made a decision.

32 minutes and 55 secondsOr the person was just already in power.

32 minutes and 57 secondsI don't know, if you just--

32 minutes and 58 secondsI guess if you think you know what the values are

33 minutes and 0 secondsof the person in control, you are more likely to trust them.

33 minutes and 2 secondsBecause you can't--

33 minutes and 3 secondsMaybe you can't see where they are taking you,

33 minutes and 5 secondsbut you trust they are taking you somewhere good.

33 minutes and 7 secondsAnd if you don't have that trust with somebody,

33 minutes and 8 secondsyou are just like: "Where are you taking me?"

33 minutes and 10 seconds\[CHUCKLES\]

33 minutes and 11 secondsIt turns out everyone was a backseat driver.

33 minutes and 13 seconds"Why'd you turn down this road? You dummy."

33 minutes and 15 secondsYou know?

33 minutes and 16 secondsEspecially if you've never been on a trip with that person before.

33 minutes and 19 secondsPAUL: Mm-hmm.

33 minutes and 22 secondsAt least I wrapped that metaphor.

33 minutes and 24 secondsPAUL: It was good.

33 minutes and 25 secondsThanks.

33 minutes and 27 secondsTIM: Yeah, he is supposed to be talking with Sasha, or hearing Sasha.

33 minutes and 29 secondsSETH: There is a trigger to talk with Sasha.

33 minutes and 30 seconds-JAMES: Hey, did you kill all enemies? -ZACH: Yeah.

33 minutes and 33 secondsSETH: Yeah, if you kill all enemies, the game breaks.

33 minutes and 36 secondsYep.

33 minutes and 37 secondsGEOFF: Oi...

33 minutes and 38 secondsSETH: Yeah, if you hit K, the rest of the level will work.

33 minutes and 40 secondsTim, we are doing great.

33 minutes and 41 secondsWe should just have this meeting on Friday with the playthrough build.

33 minutes and 44 secondsIt's guaranteed to work.

33 minutes and 45 secondsSETH: You can just play from here.

33 minutes and 48 seconds-I heard that before! -ZACH: Yeah, exactly.

33 minutes and 50 seconds\[TIM CHUCKLES\]

33 minutes and 51 secondsTAZIO: Um...

33 minutes and 53 secondsBut, yeah, it's, like...

33 minutes and 53 secondsSome of it is also just about, like, coating the level, you know.

33 minutes and 56 secondsGetting, like-- establishing a baseline and figuring out how we need to do things,

34 minutes and 0 secondsand running into the problems as early as possible,

34 minutes and 2 secondsso we have time to fix it.

34 minutes and 4 secondsUm, yeah...

34 minutes and 5 secondsBut it seems like...

34 minutes and 7 secondsthere is no way that this isn't going to be really hard.

34 minutes and 9 seconds\[MUSIC\]

34 minutes and 10 secondsGEOFF: On the environment side, we are going to just--

34 minutes and 12 secondswe are going to start sweeping from the beginning to the end

34 minutes and 14 secondsand polishing it.

34 minutes and 15 secondsScripted cutscenes.

34 minutes and 16 secondsSince there are four designers,

34 minutes and 18 secondswe are going to split you guys in two sections,

34 minutes and 20 secondsand we are going to attack them that way.

34 minutes and 23 seconds\[MUSIC\]

34 minutes and 30 secondsTOOTH FAIRY: "I'm comin' to see you, Ma!"

34 minutes and 36 secondsTIM: Close enough.

34 minutes and 37 seconds\[CHUCKLING\]

34 minutes and 39 seconds\[MUSIC\]

34 minutes and 48 seconds-TIM: I was not here! Oof! -CLAM: Yeah.

34 minutes and 49 seconds-Okay! -Thank you, Tim!

34 minutes and 50 secondsBye!

34 minutes and 51 seconds\[MUSIC\]

35 minutes and 9 secondsKEE: Hey, Tim! How do you feel about the timing of the Coach right there?

35 minutes and 12 secondsI told James.

35 minutes and 13 secondsIt's, like, Coach should be in front of you when you say Coach,

35 minutes and 17 secondsand he should be running past you.

35 minutes and 19 secondsRaz is, like, blurry here even though--

35 minutes and 21 secondsOh!

35 minutes and 22 seconds-I stopped, I paused it, because... -\[LAUGHTER\]

35 minutes and 24 seconds...Tim was saying something, you were saying something.

35 minutes and 27 secondsLOBOTO: Looking for me?

35 minutes and 29 secondsWell, come and get me.

35 minutes and 31 secondsGREG: Nice!

35 minutes and 33 secondsLOBOTO: Why are you taking so...

35 minutes and 36 secondsKEE: Oh, that was great.

35 minutes and 36 secondsLOBOTO ...long?

35 minutes and 37 seconds\[LAUGHTER\]

35 minutes and 38 secondsOh, that's awesome!

35 minutes and 40 secondsThat's really good.

35 minutes and 41 seconds\[MUSIC\]

35 minutes and 42 seconds-\[CLAPPING\] -That's amazing.

35 minutes and 43 secondsAh, you guys!

35 minutes and 44 secondsThat's super cool.

35 minutes and 46 secondsTAZIO: Because there is, like, an emotional connection

35 minutes and 48 secondsbetween that-- that technique,

35 minutes and 50 secondsand the story that we are trying to tell in that moment,

35 minutes and 53 secondsit's just, like--

35 minutes and 54 secondsit feels like it just fundamentally works.

35 minutes and 56 secondsAnd... especially at this stage of production

35 minutes and 59 secondswhere things are just, like...

36 minutes and 1 secondkind of, like, pretty suddenly coming together.

36 minutes and 4 secondsHaving those moments sort of stand out as being, like:

36 minutes and 6 seconds"Oh...

36 minutes and 7 secondsThis is, like-- this is hitting that mark that we are trying to achieve."

36 minutes and 10 secondsIt just, yeah-- It just feels really good.

36 minutes and 13 secondsGet some rest, you are going to need it next week!

36 minutes and 15 seconds\[MUSIC\]

36 minutes and 47 secondsThe faeries...

36 minutes and 48 seconds-Before it gets, like, a... -Like, before they do that.

36 minutes and 50 secondsYeah, so, like-- Like, do a cut.

36 minutes and 52 secondsAnd then have all of the stuff that's attached to it.

36 minutes and 53 secondsI see!

36 minutes and 54 secondsLike, have them land on the tooth and then we cut.

37 minutes and 1 secondTIM: I mean, you know, about the--

37 minutes and 2 secondsLoboto will be on camera, you'll look at him.

37 minutes and 3 secondsCLAM: Yeah.

37 minutes and 4 secondsTIM: He'll turn and you'll look at him, and then...

37 minutes and 6 secondsthe point and this light will come on, and then you'll look at that.

37 minutes and 8 secondsAnd then the next cutscene will happen.

37 minutes and 10 secondsA hundred-percent guarantee it!

37 minutes and 12 secondsWell, we will put in a fail-safe for when they don't look at the light.

37 minutes and 15 secondsYeah, we don't have to, because I'll just a hundred-percent guarantee it.

37 minutes and 16 seconds-JAMES: We a hundred-percent have to. -TIM: Hundred-percent guarantee it.

37 minutes and 18 secondsWe definitely have to.

37 minutes and 19 secondsOnly bad people won't do it.

37 minutes and 20 seconds\[CHUCKLING\]
