# Working at Double Fine

[![GamesIndustry.biz: Best Places to Work 2022 - U.S Winner](https://assets.doublefine.com/shared/news/2022/05/best-places-to-work-2022-us-winner.svg)](//assets.doublefine.com/shared/news/2022/05/best-places-to-work-2022-us-winner.svg "Award logo for GI.biz Best Places to Work 2022 - U.S Winner")

We were named one of the **Best Places to Work** in the [2022 US Games Industry.biz awards](https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2022-05-12-bad-robot-games-and-ea-win-big-at-the-us-best-places-to-work-awards-2022)!

Double Fine is is an award-winning game development studio founded in 2000 by games industry veteran [Tim Schafer](https://www.doublefine.com/about/tim). Since 2019 we've been part of the Xbox Game Studios.

We are based in *mostly* sunny, San Francisco, we'd like folks to be close to us if possible but we're pretty flexible about it (especially these days) and our employees can be found working all around the world.

Benefits include the usual gamut of

- **Healthcare**
- **Vision**
- **Dental**
- **401k +Matching**
- **Life Insurance**
- **Commuter Support**
- **Relocation Aid**
- **Mental Wellbeing Support**

But we like to think that the benefits of working here go beyond mere bullet points.

Making video games is an exciting job but the industry is often famously intense. It is our responsibility to help facilitate a working environment that isn't *just* fun but also ethical.

[![Rusty in the Ballpit](https://assets.doublefine.com/shared/news/2021/rustyballpit.jpg)](//assets.doublefine.com/shared/news/2021/rustyballpit.jpg "Rusty in the Ballpit")

We do our best to make sure people have the things that they need to get their job done. That might be their own preference of mouse and keyboard, convertible sitting / standing desks, a chair that best fits their body, or in the case of Rusty: an extra hour in ball pit.

What else does that mean beyond benefits and cool whirly-gigs? It means **an ongoing commitment to a crunch-free environment.** We'll be honest: the early days had some intense development periods. That was a mistake. You don't get bonus points here for grinding yourself into dust to make a game.

**Time off is flexible** and **our processes are focused on making games in a way that keeps the team healthy**. For the moment, during the COVID-19 pandemic, this has meant setting everyone up to work safely from their homes and finding an extra day to take off once a month to grant longer, more restful weekends.

There's also smaller things like **easy access to our library of games** and regular drops of **special merchandise.** Our video eggheads curate a lineup of **movies** to watch during lunchtimes, there's **board-game times** with whoever wants to sign up, **free** **team yoga sessions**, and a variety of **parties** through the year to celebrate holidays and important milestones.

Being part of the *Xbox Game Studios* comes with its own set of benefits from our pals up the chain - **Discounts on Microsoft software and services, free or discounted** **Xbox games and hardware,** and other stuff like **full access to the GDC Vaults.**

There's always *something* happening here and it's usually pretty fun. We say "usually" because there was a frog-infestation once. *That was weird...* though if we're being truly honest, we were all here together so even that was pretty tolerable.

Working at Double Fine isn't *all* fun and games, but we sure do our best.
