KILN!

Ashley Esqueda Ashley

The Xbox Developer_Direct 2026 just wrapped up and—SURPRISE!—we announced our newest game, Kiln: an online, multiplayer, pottery party brawler from your your BGDFFs* here at Double Fine Productions. We have tons of information in this blog post (including how to potentially play Kiln before just about anyone else), but let’s kick off this revelation celebration with our totally awesome announcement trailer:

Get Fired Up for the Throwdown!

Longtime fans of the studio with sharp memories might recall Kiln was selected for prototyping during Amnesia Fortnight 2017. You can even watch Kiln Project Lead Derek Brand's original pitch! The game has changed and grown quite a bit since then, though, and we’re excited to finally tell you all about the Kiln we know and love today.

In Kiln, you’ll start by inhabiting a colorful spirit, complete with a super cute little spirit butt. But this spirit can’t do battle without some protection, so you’ll take control of a best-in-class simulated pottery wheel to sculpt the ceramic armor of your dreams. The size and shape of your pot determines a variety of skills, such as play-style and abilities.

A pair of green floating hands sculpts a vase on a pottery wheel, surrounded by various pottery tools and other pots.

Shape that clay, crocksmith!

Will you be big, or small? Wide, or tall? Will you make a plate, a jug, a cup or a bowl? Do you prefer to throw pies in your enemy’s face, or transform into a stick of dynamite to be tossed into the fray? There are a multitude of different sizes and combinations to discover, each with unique abilities and attacks, along with new and surprising ways to play.

You’ll have to decorate those pots, too—because what good is making yourself ceramic armor if you can’t customize the unholy bajeezus out of it? Kiln features a positively dizzying selection of toppers, handles, spouts, glazes, charms and stickers to ensure that every pot you throw on the wheel is as unique as you are.

Eat it, Antiques Roadshow, we're making our own priceless pottery now.

Once you’ve created your best pottery masterpieces, you’ll assemble a team and queue up for Quench mode, a 4v4 clash of ceramic combatants. Work together to find the best combo of pots and play-styles, break through enemy lines, and collect enough water to douse the flames of the enemy team’s kiln!

It's easier said than done, though; the maps all have their own styles, shortcuts, and other points of interest you'll want to make note of, and the other team will be working very hard to extinguish your kiln as quickly as possible. You'll have to think fast, roll faster, and attack and defend smartly to emerge victorious.

A team of four pots inhabited by green spirits pose in a line, in pots of different shapes in front of their kiln, which burns with a heavy green flame.

After the battle is won, head to Kiln's main hub, The Wedge. There, you can practice your pottery prowess, pick up some new decorations for your pots from Slip’s shop (he's a very good boy, we’ll have you know), share your creations with others, and admire their handiwork, too.

Kiln Screenshot 8 - Announce - Spirits In Lobby

A green spirit floats around in the game's lobby, looking askance as in the background the ruler of the real, a blue humanoid character called Celadon sits with an unimpressed expression on a throne shaped like a pair of green hands inside a pot.

That's Celadon. She's in charge, so be nice!

If you’re as excited about Kiln as we are and want the chance to play before launch, we’re launching a Beta Testing Program and will be inviting players to try the game and help us with stuff like network load and other helpful tests. It’s easy to sign up, just head to our beta sign-up page for more details.

We’ll be sharing all kinds of information and fun Kiln-related content pretty regularly from now until launch, so make sure you’re following us on social media (YouTube, BlueSky, TikTok, and Instagram are our main feeds), and join our Discord channel if you want to talk with other fans about the game as we approach launch.

Kiln hits Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and PS5 in 2026 (yep, you right that right, this year). We can't wait to see you make—and break—your way to victory. See you in The Wedge!
