...but it is pretty sweet!
That’s right, Stacking Dolls from Stacking!
When Lee first came to me with the idea for a game about Russian nesting dolls, I said, “What? You want to sell Russian nesting dolls in the store? GREAT IDEA!” And he said, “Well, I was talking about a GAME idea actually—” and I was like, “Yeah, yeah, whatever. As an offshoot of the dolls you can do a game, or a movie, or a Broadway musical for all I care. Just as long as we get awesome nesting dolls in the store!” I’m not sure what happened with that crazy game idea, or Lee for that matter. All I know is that THE DOLLS ARE HERE AND THEY ARE AMAZING. Made in RUSSIA, of all places.
And maybe a hint at something that MIGHT be coming to our store soon. MAYBE.
Or maybe not.
Or maybe it IS.
Okay, we don’t have fancy microphones (or even three bad ones), we don’t have a dedicated page for it, and we don’t have anything to say, but lets try it anyway!

This week I will be talking to the creators of Costume Quest and it’s amazing expansion Grubbins on Ice (available now!) Tasha Harris and Gabe Miller.
Did I mention that the cost of this podcast is NOTHING?
If you like it, we’ll make it fancier. If you don’t like it, let us never speak of it again.
Also, listening to it is OPTIONAL.

“What? A new game already?” you scream/ask, “Didn’t Double Fine just release the amazing holiday RPG Costume Quest and announce the phenomenal, downloadable, add-on, stand-alone level called Grubbins on Ice?”
To which we reply, “What? We can’t understand you.” Because you’re talking funny what with your jaw being on the floor and all.
But you need to pick up that jaw and close that mouth so you can get ready to kiss your blues away. Because Stacking is here.
Stacking is a game about a young chimney sweep named Charlie Blackmore, and his quest to reunite his family after they’ve been forced into indentured servitude by an evil industrialist. Oh, and he happens to be a Russian Matryoshka, or Nesting Doll. Which is handy because Russian Nesting Dolls can do this:
Ta-da! They stack inside each other! The rules are simple: You can stack inside of any doll that is one size larger than you…
...as long as they are not facing you.
Once inside, you command that larger doll and can use its SPECIAL ABILITY.
And then use that ability to solve puzzles and get Charlie through his grand stacking adventure!
Created by Brütal Legend’s art director, Lee Petty, plus his awesome team, Stacking has all the great story, characters, and setting of old-school adventure games, but also has a completely new way to interact with all those things I just said.
I’m just glad we got out there first, because by this time next year, all games are going to star Russian nesting dolls. Mark my words.

But wait, there’s more…
We can’t stop making Costume Quest!
The first game was so fun, the CQ team has made a whole new level, set in the monster universe of Repugia.
All new quests! New characters! New enemies! New costumes! New Battle Stamps! New Creepy Treats! A snowman!
Plus we patched the main game to add places to save your game at will, and pause cutscenes so you can read the awesome text. (Yes, that’s right—we read the forums!)
You don’t have to buy the DLC to get the patch, but good lord in heaven up above why would you not want this amazing entertainment value?? Do you hate ENTERTAINMENT? Are you allergic to fun? Well, this is the cure. Grubbins on Ice will melt your frozen heart and fill your candy bag with LOVE.
Read more about it at Gamespot!
This thing is so awesome I just want to eat it up.
Me! I’m excited. I’ve been on twitter all day (in disguise as TimOfLegend) listening to people talk about how much fun they’re having playing the game. I’ve also been answering a question here and there.
Also, Lili’s excited:
Hit “read the rest” to hear me answer all the questions you wanted answered but were afraid to ask but don’t need to worry about because someone on Twitter asked for you.
Q: How do I save the game?
A: The game autosaves whenever you start or complete a quest. Also whenever you load a level.
Q: I’m losing this battle every time!
A: Make sure to buy and use BATTLE STAMPS. Sadie has a stand in every level where she sells battle stamps. They can make you stronger, help your defense, make you dodge, heal you, or do crazy things like wrap your enemy in toilet paper. You won’t be able to make it through the game unless you master Battle Stamps.
Q: Where’s the map?
A: Sorry, there’s no map! But you can tell which houses you’ve visited by the illuminated paper bag trail leading to the house. If the lights are lit, you haven’t hit that house yet!
Q: Is there going to be a PC version?
A: None planned at this time. As I’ve said before, this is not our call to make!
Q: Should I stop asking you about a PC version?
A: Yes, please.
Q: Where is the last part of the Statue of Liberty costume?
A: Have you tried the storm drain on the northeast side of town?
Q: Is there going to be any DLC!
A: Who knows? Stay tuned!*
*Odds of DLC increase every time you convince a friend to buy Costume Quest!

Excitement! Terror! Sweets! Double Fine! We have announced the first of our four new games! It’s Tasha’s awesome Halloween RPG, COSTUME QUEST!
Hit “read the rest” for all the spooky details!
I love making smaller games! It seems like only yesterday, Tasha said to me, “I think it would be fun to make a game about trick or treating…
...where your homemade costumes would transform into awesome versions of themselves to do battle…
...and it would have all the fun stuff in it that I love from Halloween, like candy and bobbing for apples…
...but also awesome RPG combat…
...oh, and it would be super cute.”
And I said, “Sounds great! How big will my name be on the box?” And Tasha said, “THERE IS NO BOX.”
To which I said nothing because my head exploded.
But I still managed to give it the thumbs up, and settled in for what I thought would be a nice four- to five-year nap while Tasha and her team slaved away on the game.
But NO. Here it is, just about done all ready! And awesome.
Wooo! Go Costume Quest team!
Now I just have to figure out when I’m going to take that nap.
