Known Issues: April 23rd 2026 (Kiln)

Common Issue

This is our first Known Issues support article, to highlight some things that we are aware of and working on that we expect to still be present at launch. Please keep an eye out for updates!

Uncommon connectivity issues

In a small number of cases, players have reported being unable to connect to matches, either frequently or intermittently. In these cases, in the Party menu of the game the party size is shown to be 0/4 after completing the tutorial (which is done by talking to Celadon in the Wedge to start matchmaking for the first time) Ordinary when playing alone the party size would show as 1/4 after the tutorial.

We believe this issue may be related to the behavior of certain routers, however we are looking into this issue further in order to address it. In the meantime, some players have reported that playing via a VPN has resolved the issue, so this may be a suitable workaround. You may also try switching between wired and wireless connection on your computer if this is an option for you.

If you are having this issue, please send support@doublefine.com an email with the title "0/4 Team Issue" along with a description of the severity of the issue, whether you've been able to try any of the suggested workarounds, the specifications of your computer if applicable, how you are connected to the internet and if you can find it out the make and model of your router. If you were able to work around the issue, letting us know what worked for you would be very helpful information to aid our investigation.

Game does not run in Proton compatibility mode

Right now, Kiln does not work in Proton compatibility mode, meaning that it will not work on Steam Deck, or other Linux-based systems. We're investigating this, and hope to be able to offer compatibility in the future. However, we do not know when or if this will happen for certain, and so we do not currently recommend purchasing the PC version of Kiln for play on a non-Windows device.

Severe visual artefacts after enabling frame generation

If you are seeing some severe visual artifacts after enabling frame generation, this is currently known to occur on certain video cards. It's possible that updating to the latest driver version may help, or rolling back if you are already up to date. However, the fastest workaround would be to turn off frame generation for the time being.
