Xbox Previews Keeper!
The headline of Xbox Wire's exclusive hands-on preview of our upcoming game Keeper kicks off with, "Double Fine Has Been Holding Back a Secret." And you know what?
It's true!
We confess!
The team has worked very hard to preserve the mystery of Keeper; it's a game that deserves to be unwrapped by each of you on your own terms, without a deluge of spoilers or too much advance information. Now that we've let Xbox Wire gets its hands on Keeper, though, the cat's (sort of) out of the bag. There's a bit more to our next game than meets the eye...
But having now played its opening hours, I’m left with the distinct impression that this is far from all the game has in store – Keeper seems to be hiding something unexpected.
We're such teases, we know. But we also love sharing our work—Exhibit A: our documentaries—which means we're bursting at the seams for people to experience Keeper, which meant we were super excited to give our Xbox fam a world-first, hands-on sneak peek at the game's first few hours. And it appears they had a great time playing:
Keeper presents an incredible world, driven by startlingly unusual art design. Battered coastlines are littered with the skeletons of unidentifiable beasts; lush valleys are filled with chittering alien creatures; a nearby hill might turn out to be a gigantic beast made up of building-sized snail shells that uproots and moves alongside you...Every new area feels like a discovery of something new – which carries over into the game design.
In addition, The Official Xbox Podcast also stopped by the studio for their newest episode, which features Creative Director Lee Petty, Senior Level Designer Asif Siddiky, and Audio Director Camden Stoddard talking to Xbox Communications Manager Lina Madrid about crafting the overall experience of Keeper and how the lighthouse and Twig interact with the world around them. The video version of the podcast includes never-before-seen footage of the game, so definitely check it out!
There are still mysteries to uncover—we wouldn't be us if we didn't hold back a few surprises for everyone to enjoy until launch. For now, the team is heads down in the race to the finish line. Everyone is working really hard to polish pass, squash bugs, and get those finishing details in place by October 17th, when Keeper launches on PC and Xbox Game Pass.
