Issue:
"Brutal Legend.app is damaged" message is preventing game from starting on macOS
Solution:
macOS
Players using MacOS 13 or later may encounter an error message claiming that "Brutal Legend.app is damaged" when trying to launch the game.
To work around this, please follow these steps:
- Go into System Settings > Privacy & Security
- Search for a security notification indicating “Brutal Legend” was blocked
- Click Open Anyway
- Click Open in the “Brutal Legend is damaged” prompt
- Confirm with machine account and password
- Attempt launch again
If this doesn't work, it may be because an additional step is needed. It's a little technical, but it should hopefully get you up and running.
1. Open Finder and go to the folder where Brutal Legend.app is installed. You'll need this in a second!
2. Open Terminal
3. in Terminal, type the following but don't press enter yet:
/usr/bin/xattr -d -r com.apple.quarantine
4. Now click and drag the Brutal Legend.app file to the end of that line you just typed to insert the file location (making sure there's a space between com.apple.quarantine and the file location). Now you can press enter
5. Now you should be able to follow the steps above successfully.
