It's been just about 6 weeks since we launched Keeper into your eager hands, and today, we have an update that we hope you'll really love!

Keeper: The Back in Black (and White) UPDATE!

By the time you read this, the update should be live (release notes here). It's an update that's all about colors (or the lack thereof)! Check out the video we made about the update, or keep on scrolling for all the details in text form.

Let's not waste a second more, it's time to dig into three of the biggest features in this hefty update...

Noir Mode

A silly test experiment by one of our talented artists (Levi Ryken, who deserves a shoutout for this unexpected and delightful idea) ended up being so mind-blowing that the team knew it had to be made official. It's not just a simple desaturation, though; Noir Mode is a finely tuned experience that the team really worked hard to perfect via lighting and contrast. If you’ve enjoyed the black and white versions of movies like “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Parasite,” or “The Mist,” you’re really gonna love Noir Mode. Turns out, taking away all the color made it really cool and even more impressionistic! Some folks here at the studio have reported heightened awareness of the sound design throughout their Noir playthrough, which is pretty dang cool. We highly encourage you to try it out, and report back on your experience over on our Bluesky and Instagram comments.

Ultrawide Support

We know, we know. We admit that we said it couldn’t (and shouldn't!) be done, since the game was made specifically to showcase certain framing and camera angles. But actually, as it turns out, it totally can be done! After some tweaks and tests and some optimization, the team realized they could support ultrawide monitors for Keeper. And it’s gorgeous! So dazzling, in fact, that you might burst into tears of awe when you behold it on your screens. It's an explosion of color, and the vistas are truly something magical to behold. And if you play in Noir Mode, it's even more impressionistic and dramatic. We know how much the UW community enjoys having art that shows off their monitors, and we can confidently say that Keeper is a great way to convince all your friends to invest in Ultrawide, because it's simply spectacular in action. If you don't believe me, this gallery should convince you:

We've also updated our Wallpapers to include some fancy Ultrawide options, including a few from Noir Mode if you're a monochrome type of person. Join the goth parade! Wear black eyeliner! Listen to darkwave msuic and pluck imaginary cobwebs from the air as you sway! Alternatively, get gussied up in your finest 1940s costume and pretend you're a hardboiled detective trying to solve a heinous crime. We're here for it either way.

High Contrast Mode

For those who need specific colors (who might have low vision or photosensitivity needs), we’re adding some accessibility features to help you enjoy Keeper! When everyone can play, everyone wins, and we've been working diligently on options to assist those who need a little extra help or accommodation. There are High Contrast options, as well as highlighting options, so you can change the color of the Lighthouse and other objects/creatures, so they're easier for you to see during gameplay. There are quite a few toggles, so jump into the menu and try them out to fine tune your visual experience!

We're really proud of this update, and we hope you spend some time exploring again in the unknowable places beyond both time and space. And tell us what you think of Noir Mode! We want to hear from you on our socials. Huge shout out to Lee and the entire Keeper team, who worked hard on making sure this update (and these cool new features) was extra fine-tuned to bring you something really special.

Happy wandering!
